About Maztica[edit]

Maztica began as a trio of adventures for AD&D 2e (Fires of Zatal, Endless Armies, and City of Gold), as well as a trio of novels (Ironhand, Viperhand, and Feathered Dragon). Maztica itself is a portmanteau of "Maya" and "Aztec", and resembles general trends of colonial-era Central American nations. However, the two trilogies are written largely from the perspective of the conquerors, which ultimately resigned anything native to Maztica to the role of the "mysterious savage".

My hope for this supplement is to position Maztica itself as the focus, and to treat Central American history with more honesty than it was granted in the original material. To that end, while the 2e books should give us a starting place, they should not be treated as law; these stories happened 200 years ago, and the continent has changed significantly since then.
