Graatel (3.5e Sourcebook)/Character Creation

Chapter 1: Character Creation[edit]

Character creation for the realm of Graatel is pretty different in a variety of ways. There are two major factors why I change how character creation occurs. The first is I like my PCs to feel like Heros instead of some random run of the mill person. The major changes to the environment to help this are generally higher ability scores and only PC characters and certain monster types (i.e. dragons) receive feats. Second I dislike someone being hosed by the system if they are genuinely a bad roller. Enough with the foot notes, on to the changes!

Attributes[edit]

Attributes number wise still work the way they do in the core 3.5 D&D book. You gain an inherent +1 every even number after 10 and high scores are good for you. The primary difference is how you go about generating that score. In Graatel you can use either a point buy system or a roll system. The roll system starts you with a base stat of 10 and you roll 1d8 and add to the score giving you a possible 11-18; you roll 7 dice and discard the lowest number, and you may reroll the entire string once. If you desire something lower than the 11 (for example low intelligence for role playing purposes) simply change the number down to the desired amount. While heros can occasionally be lacking in some areas I do not enjoy forcing on them feigning stupidity (especially since I try to actively off the player character party.) Point system is base 10 for stats 30 points with a 1:1 exchange to 16 and 2:1 for 17 and 18. You may not start with higher than an 18 prior to racial adjustments or any other adjustments.

Races[edit]

This section is easy since I already made a sourcebook that contains all of this information. With the other rule changes the current LA adjustment is determined in this book Monster Compendium. If you want to add in a race generally it is a judgement call of between a single LA up to 3 LA less than the book states. If there are any questions you can always drop someone like me (or me) a note to help you figure it out.

In addition there are quite a few unique races outlined below:

Alignments[edit]

Dungeons and Dragons alignments have always irritated me. Unless you are a paladin or a class that requires an alignment I wouldn't even count it as part of your character. Everything is subjective and quite frankly I can come up with dozens of instances that can make someone act "out of alignment." You are here for fun, not for a massive dose of you aren't playing your character right.
