Gourmet Hunter Superhuman Smell Techniques (5e Other)
Scent Recall[edit]
Prerequisite: 3rd level, Superhuman Smell
- 5 Appetite Energy
So long as you had encountered a creature or item before at least once and were within 30ft of it, you can use this technique to sniff them out so long as they are within 1 mile of you. The creature will be considered revealed to you, you learn its exact location and any other creature types around them, and they cannot hide from you so long as they remain in the same plane and are within your range. If the item or creature is in motion, this technique will not reveal the direction in which they are moving only telling you their exact location at the moment of this technique's use, similar to a snapshot`. When you use this technique at 5th level, the range increases by to 5 miles. The range increases again at levels 11 (25 miles) and 17 (100 miles).
Blood Hound[edit]
Prerequisite: Superhuman Smell
- 10 Appetite Energy
Choose one creature within 30ft or an item rich with their scent, and you lock onto that creature's scent. Make a scent-based perception check against your Gourmet Hunter DC, and on success for the next 24 hours after, you know the approximate direction of the creature so long as they are within 20 miles of the Gourmet Hunter. For every additional 10 Appetite Energy, increase the range of this technique by another 20 miles or extend the duration for another 12 hours.
Mark Prey[edit]
Prerequisite: Superhuman Smell, 5th level
- 15 Appetite Energy
As an action or bonus action, you may mark a creature as your prey. For the next minute, you will deal an additional 1d8 damage on all attacks on that target for the duration and you gain an additional 10 movement speed when traveling toward them. If your target is reduced to 0HP within the duration, you may choose another target to mark for an additional 5 Appetite Energy. For every additional D10 Appetite Energy you can increase the additional movement speed by 5 and the additional damage on attack by another 1d8 to a maximum of 5d8.
The Nose Knows[edit]
Prerequisite: Superhuman Smell, 8th level
- 40 Appetite Energy
The Gourmet Hunter inhales deeply, taking in even the most subtle of scents within a 120ft radius. For the next hour, increase your passive perception by +5, and you may add a +3 bonus to any survival checks you make for the duration. Any creature within the radius will be revealed to you, allowing you to learn its approximate direction. If a creature is trying to mask their scent or hide from you, they must make a stealth check against your passive perception, on a success they will not be detected by you. So long as a creature is detected by the Gourmet Hunter, the hunter cannot be surprised by them. Additionally, you will always be aware of a creature entering and leaving your radius and if a detected creature is within 30ft of you, you will always know their exact location. The Gourmet Hunter may spend an additional 10 Appetite Energy to increase their passive perception by an additional +5 for the duration.
Devil Sense[edit]
Prerequisite: Superhuman Smell, 11th level
- 30 Appetite Energy
After inhaling deeply in the direction of a creature within 30ft, your superhuman senses allow you to learn everything you can about your prey, as if pulling out and weighing the creature's soul. After targeting a creature with this technique, the Gourmet Hunter must make a contested smelling perception check against their deception to discern their thoughts and body language. On a success, you may choose to learn three of the following pieces of information about them:
- Learn about their Resistances and Immunities, if any.
- Learn about any Vulnerabilities they may have, if any.
- Learn about a potential weakness from a narrative standpoint (at GM's discretion).
- Learn about any of their physical scores (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution).
- Learn about any weapons or items they may have on them or are concealing
- Learn the current hit points of the creature.
- Learn what the creature's AC is.
- Learn what saving throws the creature has. (Does not reveal the modifiers of the saving throws only which they are proficient with)
- Learn what alignment the creature is.
- Learn if the creature is a spellcaster, has KI, or any similar nonmundane resource. You may also instead choose to learn how much of said resource the creature has if you've already identified that they have it.
- Learn about any legendary actions or reactions the creature may possess and how many they can use per round.
- Learn about 1 feature (or a random feature at GM's discretion) the creature possesses.
- Learn what their current emotional state is.
- Learn what the creature is currently thinking of.
- Learn where they will move and what action they will take on their turn, and if you do so, gain the effects of the dodge action against them until the end of their turn.
