Gourmand[edit]

A gourmand can be any kind of man, but are always the same in one regard: their hunger. Certainly not a natural talent, but where the gourmand art is learned is a question those being digested have plenty of time to think on. Their strong diaphragm muscles as well allow them to launch those poor creatures held in their stomachs, if they prove difficult to digest, or to weaponize the vile stomach acid that rests in belly in a spray of astringent vomit. Capable of stretching their jaws into an impressive and equally terrifying maw, few creatures stand too tall to fit within their stomach lining. What motives any gourmand varies, but their appetite does not.

Gourmand's Maw[edit]

At 1st level, you gain a viscous attack with your gaping Maw. This attack deals damage based on the Gourmand's Maw column of the gourmand table and deals slashing damage.

On a successful Maw attack against a creature no more than one size larger than you or less, you may choose to use a Bonus Action to clamp your jaws over the target, making a Grapple attack against it (assuming you haven’t already taken a Bonus Action this turn). If the Grapple attack succeeds, then until this Grapple ends, the target is Grappled and you may not bite another creature.

At the start of each of your turns, you may choose to Swallow any creature you are Grappling. If you choose to do so, you make a Maw attack against that creature with Advantage– if it succeeds, you Swallow the creature whole. The swallowed target is Blinded (without Darkvision) and Restrained for the purpose of actions other than attacking your stomach or interacting with other swallowed creatures. As well, they have total cover against Attacks and other effects outside you, and take damage at the start of each of your turns based on the Stomach Acid column of the gourmand table. If you die, swallowed creatures are no longer Restrained and can escape using 5 feet of movement, exiting Prone.

Swallowed creatures may fight to escape from your stomach. On their turn, they may attack your stomach (AC = 10 + your constitution modifier) with advantage. Your stomach has an HP of 1/4 your HP + your gourmand level. When your stomach's HP drops to zero, the gourmand immediately regurgitates all Swallowed creatures into an adjacent square. Additionally, the damage dealt weakens your stomach's lining, and it cannot be used again for 1d4 hours.

You may still use Maw attacks and Bonus Attack Grapple creatures while you are at max Stomach Slot occupancy, though they cannot be swallowed. If a creature in your stomach destroys the lining and is regurgitated while you are grappling, the Grapple immediately ends. Though creatures you are grappling in your Maw are not directly exposed to your stomach acids, they still come into contact with them, and take half Stomach Acid damage at the start of each of your turns.

You can hold in your stomach a number of creatures based on the Stomach Slots column of your gourmand table plus the Stomach Slot occupancy of your current size. However, having a current Stomach Slot occupancy greater than the Slot Occupancy of your current size causes you to become Encumbered.

Size Slot Occupancy
Tiny 1/4
Small 2
Medium 3
Large 6
Huge 9
Gargantuan 12

Disgusting Regurgitation[edit]

At the start of each of your turns, while have a creature swallowed, you may choose to launch a swallowed creature with a disgusting regurgitation. You may treat this as a ranged attack of 20 ft, or a melee attack of 5 ft. On a successful attack, the target takes 1d6 damage, plus 1d6 for every size category the regurgitated creature is above Medium. The regurgitated creature takes this damage as well and lands prone, but may make a Dexterity save (DC = 10 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus) to take half damage and land on their feet.

Additionally, you may weaponize your stomach acid in a 10 ft regurgitated acid cone breath attack. All creatures affected must make a Constitution saving throw to take half or be dealt damage based on the Stomach Acid column of the gourmand table plus your Constitution modifier.

You may regurgitate swallowed creatures at any time, but you may only use a regurgitated Stomach Acid attack a number of times per day equal to 1 plus your Constitution modifier.

Consummate Digestion[edit]

Starting at 2nd level, your body takes advantage of your appetite for sizeable prey more adeptly than most. Whenever you have a corpse in your stomach your size or greater, you may choose to digest it fully instead of regurgitating it. Doing so takes 1d4 hours, and during this time your Stomach Slots are taken up based on the Slot Occupancy of the digesting corpse's size. Once the corpse has been fully digested, you grow in height and weight based on the size height/weight growth table below. You may grow up to one size category larger consuming corpses larger than you.

Size Height (in) Weight (lb)
Tiny .5 .2
Small 2 2
Medium 3 14
Large 6 110
Huge 12 930
Gargantuan 24 7300

Gluttony Path[edit]

Starting at 3rd level, you have evolved your tastes making you choose a Gluttony Path. Choose between Gluton or Mordacious, both detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 3rd level and again at 6th, 9th, 13th and 17th level.

Tenacious Jaw[edit]

Starting at 3rd level, your strong jaws allow you to Latch on to creatures too big for you to swallow. On a successful Maw attack against a creature, you may make a Grapple attack against it, assuming you haven’t already taken a Bonus Action this turn. If the Grapple attack succeeds, then until this Grapple ends, you may not bite another creature and you Latch on to one portion of the target's body, with different advantages based on what portion of the body you choose:

  • Head: The creature is Blinded.
  • Arm: The creature suffers disadvantage when attacking with the latched arm, and cannot attack you with that arm.
  • Leg: The creature is Encumbered.

The DM may determine advantages/disadvantages present when latching on to creatures without those members.

You may Latch on to a creature while you have another swallowed. If a creature in your stomach destroys the lining and is regurgitated while you are latched, you immediately un-latch. Though creatures you are latched on to are not directly exposed to your stomach acids, they still come into contact with them, and take half Stomach Acid damage at the start of each of your turns.

Ability Score Improvement[edit]

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

Ferocious Tear[edit]

Starting at 5th level, when you could choose to Swallow or Latch a creature, you may alternatively choose to tear your jaw away, shredding through them. Doing this ends the grapple and forces them to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 10 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the target takes damage based on the Gourmand's Maw column of the gourmand table and gains a Wound. At the start of each of the target's turns, they take 1d4 necrotic damage for each Wound on them and may make the same Constitution save. On a success, the target takes half damage from your Maw and ends all Wounds currently affecting them, if any. The creature, or any creature within 5 ft of it, may also end their Wounds through a Wisdom (Medicine) check with the same DC.

Famished Chew[edit]

At 5th level, you begin to savor your meals more. Whenever you Swallow a creature or end your turn while grappling one in your Maw, you may Chew them. Doing so deals half damage to the creature based on the Gourmand's Maw column of the gourmand table.

Corrosive Acid[edit]

Starting at 6th level, your Stomach Acid gains a viscous acidity. When any nonmagic ferrous metal object comes into contact with your stomach acids, it dissolves. Creatures outside your stomach with equipment that would be affected by this ability may make a Dexterity save (DC = 10 + your Constitution modifier) to avoid the effect. Creatures that fail this save and creatures in your stomach gain a -1 penalty to damage and base AC on any weapon or armor equipped, respectively. This effect stacks. Weapons are destroyed when their damage penalty reaches -5, armor are destroyed when the penalty reduces their base AC to 10, and small objects affected by this are destroyed immediately. You may regurgitate small amounts of stomach acid for this effect outside of combat.

Improved Digestion[edit]

At 7th level, your digestive system becomes empowered by the plentiful nutrients you've consumed. The AC for swallowed creatures attacking your stomach improves to (AC = 15 + your constitution modifier) with advantage. Additionally, your stomach acids break down the nutrients in your prey quicker. Whenever a swallowed creature takes damage from your stomach acids, you heal for 1/6 of the damage dealt.

Unimpedible Appetite[edit]

Starting at 10th level, your already fortified digestive tract becomes unimpedible. You are now capable of eating and digesting any nonmagical object no greater than one size larger than you. Additionally, you become immune to disease and poison.

Forceful Regurgitation[edit]

At 11th level, your esophagus muscles strengthen under the stress caused by constant regurgitation. When you launch a creature with a disgusting regurgitation, the damage both creatures take is now increased based on the Gourmand's Maw column of the gourmand table.

Resistant Tissue[edit]

Starting at 13th level, your adipose tissue contracts and strengthens due to your healthy diet. You gain damage resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

Improved Digestion[edit]

At 14th level, your digestive system becomes empowered further by the bountiful nutrients in the feasts you've consumed. Swallowed creatures attacking your stomach hoping to escape no longer gain Advantage on attack rolls against it. Additionally, your stomach acids break down the nutrients in your prey even more efficiently. Whenever a swallowed creature takes damage from your stomach acids, you now heal for 1/4 of the damage dealt.

Greedy Hunger[edit]

Starting at 15th level, your appetite expands and your greed for meals becomes indomitable, so much so your prey barely has time to think before you're upon them. You now have advantage on Grapple bonus attacks made as a result of your Maw attack.

Surplus Tissue[edit]

At 17th level, your body adapts to the surplus of nutrients flowing within it. You now have additional max hit points equal to 1/20 of your weight.

Opportune Meal[edit]

Starting at 18th level, after so many meals you've learned to never let one get away. When you could make an Attack Of Opportunity, you may choose instead to make a reaction Grapple attack against the creature to gorge them in your Maw (assuming you are not already Grappling or Latched).

Inescapable Hunger[edit]

Starting at 20th level, your greedy appetite overpowers your prey's will to escape. Whenever a creature escapes your Maw or is regurgitated near you, you may use your reaction to attempt to force them back in your Maw by making a Grapple attack against them.

Gluttony Paths[edit]
