Gilles de Rais (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Gilles de Rais[edit]
“ | After all, a very mundane ghoul. Strong resistance against Add-Ons. | ” |
—unknown |
Once living solely in the maze-like shopping centers of a forgotten world, the Gilles de Rais were greatly feared by the inhabitants. As a result of this fear, the shopping center they once inhabited was abandoned by the inhabitants, sans the Gilles. With the destruction of their world, they were scattered across the multiverse.
Physical Description[edit]

These bipedal entities have no hair, pale white skin, and large, rabbit-like ears. Their teeth are only located on their upper jaw, with their lower jaw lacking them completely. To compensate, their tongue has developed an almost bone-like dental pad similar to that of a giraffe. Their legs are dog-like, and they are uncomfortable with walking like most humanoids as a result. Though they rarely walk on all fours, they typically walk with a hunched back.
History[edit]
Although Gilles de Rais have no recollection of their creation, they were first created by an entity known as Japhet. They were indifferent to him, but stories of their previous life were passed down from generation to generation. The few stories that describe Japhet in detail describe him as an enormous bird with white feathers. They described Japhet as once being a kind and generous soul, doing his best to provide safety and peace to his Elsen subjects. Over time, the Elsen eventually forgot about their joys and eventually succumbed to their neurosis of fear and worries, overthrowing Japhet and forcing him to flee to the top of an enormous library and take the form of a cat. Driven insane by his anger and sadness, Japhet summoned forth a maelstrom of evil spirits upon his subjects, massacring much of them. The subsequent generations were even more neurotic with fear and worry, creating bunkers and other assorted strongholds just in case of another maelstrom. At some point, the Gilles de Rais say that their 'world turned white', causing their world to be shattered, scattering its inhabitants across the multiverse.
Society[edit]
Despite their fearsome appearance, Gilles de Rais are generally placid and congregate in bands of up to eight individuals for both protection and greater odds in battle. They usually live in the great libraries of Zone 2 Sects created by Elsen and in the alleys and libraries of cities and towns. However, their presence in libraries for extended periods of time are rarely tolerated by humanoids, and as a result, Gilles de Rais typically create secret rooms in these libraries in which they can live in peace during the day.
Gilles de Rais Names[edit]
Gilles de Rais names are usually very short, being only a couple syllables long and rarely having more than four. The names of Gilles de Rais that live in and around human settlements are usually Common or Giant.
