Gholdengo are bipedal humanoid construct, similar to golems, whose body is composed of 1,000 golden coins stacked together, giving them a golden, cylindrical appearance. Their face has oval eyes and a mouth displaying a crooked smile. Their body has skinny arms with large hands, and short, stumpy legs with no toes. They have three fingers on each hand and four tufts of dreadlock-like "hair", all made out of coins. They wear the strap from a Gimmighoul's chest as a belt, using it to fasten the chest to their side. The belt buckle has a stylized number 1,000 on it they also have no nose nor ears.

History[edit]

Gholdengo, along with the diminutive gimmighoul that they evolve from, were first discovered in the region of Paldea. Gimmighoul are tiny blue-gray, metallic, bipedal creatures with bands of two thin black stripes present around its torso and between its gold, circular eyes. They have a pair of thin black antennae and a tail, which are bent near the base and tipped with small gold circles. They use these antenna to detect and collect golden coins, known as Gimmighoul Coins, and they vibrate when they detect them. It is said that these creatures are born from coins seeped with passion. While some gimmighoul roam the region in search of coins, others tend to hide inside of chests and will use mind control to make any people or other intelligent creatures who get near collect coins for it. One notable tale involved a girl who was manipulated by a gimmighoul into finding and putting 999 coins into its chest. If someone spots it, they will usually high tail it out of the area as quickly as possible, but if someone manages to sneak up on one tries to take coins from a gimmighoul, the creature will retaliate by sucking out the life force of the thief.

Once a gimmighoul has managed to amass 1000 of these coins, the coins will form around it and merge with it, turning it into a gholdengo. Unlike the easily rattled gimmighoul, gholdengo is very sociable and friendly, easily befriending anyone it meets. These mysterious golem-like creatures fire streams of coins from their body as a defense mechanism and can even create a surfboard out of gold to not only traverse water but also to quickly traverse land too. What's quite interesting about these creatures is that they, much like the coins and the gimmighoul that search tirelessly for them, have been spotted relatively recently with the first sighting of gimmighoul being about 1500 years old. Because of this, people believe these creatures are associated with the tale of the ruinous treasures of Paldea. The tale goes that 1,500 years ago, the greedy king of the region purchased mysterious foreign treasures with many gold coins, but the treasures came to life and rampaged across the region until they were eventually sealed away. It has been theorized that the coins were the ones used to purchase the treasures, hence why they contain such passion, but this is simply speculation.

Society[edit]

Gholdengo will sometimes stick around with other gimmighoul to protecting them. Most of the time, however, they'll head off on their own to live solitary lives until they find a settlement to reside in. This typically doesn't take long as most people and creatures will accept them. They are especially sought after by nobility, bankers and even historians.

Gholdengo Names[edit]

Gholdengo, since they are genderless constructs, they typically don't have names and are usually given one by others.
