The Frontier[edit]

The Frontier Territory was never an official province, smack dab in the middle of the continent with its vast plains and inhospitable deserts. The Frontier Territory has become a battleground between the warring factions.

Outside the Frontier[edit]

The rest of the nation is split between between six factions. The Republic of Marais under House Raylorn, the remnants of the Birchall Administration under the Consulate, the opportunist orcish mercenaries of the Twelve Warbands, the fanatical dark elves of the Hierocracy, and the separatist provinces of Altynia and Longhorn.

Marais[edit]

The province of Marais is known for being mostly swampland surrounded by the Apalak mountain range. Every facet of society in Marais is controlled by the aristocratic family known as House Raylorn. They descend from the family of the nation’s first consul, Alaric Raylorn. House Raylorn controls most businesses in the region, exerting its influence through total control of the province’s resources. They have been generally unopposed by the government due to decades of corruption and bribery, but in recent years their political opponents have been growing increasingly stronger. House Raylorn is known for diplomacy and intrigue, using any means necessary to further their goals.

Another important group in Marais is the Gatorfolk, a race native to its swamps. They’re presence prevented the settlement of Marais until the arrival of House Raylorn, who cooperated with them and used them as bodyguards. The Gatorfolk and House Raylorn’s mutual partnership has persisted and is crucial to both sides success. Without one the other would fall.

The Apalak mountain range just beyond the swamps is mostly populated by dwarves and wood elves who immigrated from Ruginia. The dwarves carving out the mountains and living in the caverns, and the wood elves making pastures and mills on the hills. These populations provide make up the majority of mining and agriculture industries of Marais, and are an integral part of House Raylorn’s operations. The dwarves and elves constantly fued with eachother, a conflict carried over from their homeland in Ruginia.

Novem[edit]

Novem was created fairly recently as a combination of seven northeastern provinces, those being New Jorvik, Clymera, New Berith, Mucliber, Vermon, Nayim, and Lowtide. These states merged into Novem by the twelfth consul Erland Carmine as a part of his lengthy political reforms combating the widespread corruption in the government.

The many states of Novem were some of first lands settled by humans fleeing from elven rule in Ruginia. It was once a rich nexus of trade and culture, but in recent years and continued to fall into corruption and decline. Several powerful corporations have their roots in Novem, such as the United Railway Company.
