This set of tools includes a hammer and chisel, a set of wireframe stands, a tuning fork, and other assorted instruments used to locate, examine, value, and refine gemstones. Proficiency with these tools lets you add your proficiency bonus to any ability checks you make regarding gemstones. Proficiency with these tools also allows you to use them to take the following actions:

Locate Gemstone(s). Using this set of tools, you may spend 10 minutes searching a rocky area. For every 10 minutes spent searching, make an Intelligence (Investigation) check. For a 1 - 4, you find one gemstone worth 10 gp or multiple that add up to 10 gp. For a 5 - 8, you find one gemstone worth 50 gp or multiple that add up to 50 gp. For a 9 - 12, you find one gemstone worth 500 gp or multiple that add up to 500 gp. For a 13 - 16, you find one gemstone worth 1000 gp or multiple that add up to 1000 gp. For a 17 - 20, you find one gemstone worth 5000 gp or multiple that add up to 5000 gp. If you attempt to take this action in areas that are not rocky, or where gemstones cannot be found, you will always find nothing.
Examine Gemstone. Using this set of tools, you may spend 1 hour examining a gemstone. You must maintain concentration during this period. For every hour spent examining, make a Wisdom (Insight) check. The higher you roll, the more you are able to find out about the gemstone.
Refine Gemstone. Using this set of tools, you may spend 1 day refining a gemstone. You must maintain concentration during this period. For every hour spent examining, make an Dexterity (Insight) check. For every four points, the value of the gemstone increases by 10%. For example, a Bloodstone would go from 50 gp to 55 gp with a 3, and from 50 gp to 75 gp with a 19. On a natural 20 the value is doubled. On a natural 1, or if your concentration is broken, you damage the gemstone and reduce its value by half.
