Flora Colossi

They say I made them sneeze and chased me away. But at least, I'll always have the hummingbirds and bees.

Flora colossi are as they sound. They are plant-based creatures that have large bodies that tower over that of normal humans. Their bodies are made of plant fibers and are known to grown multitudes of flowers year-round. While their body shape is facetiously humanoid, they lack the typical organs and structures. Usually, their head is a giant flower, the largest and most decorated on their body. More, smaller flowers grow along their backs and limbs. These flowers are known to appear bbeautiful and even alien, with spines, speckles, and all sorts of odd colors. Their hands and feet are often like tendrils, made of plant stems, vines, and roots. Leaves often will cover their body tightly, wrapping it. Unlike something like a treant, flora colossi are not as tough, as they are not of plants that grow bark skin.

History

The colossi are believed to be a variant among the many natural creatures formed of elements in the world. While they are not elementals, they strongly draw from primal energies like other animated plants in nature, like woads and treants. It is said they were originally something created by a group of firbolg druids, though this is unclear. Their purpose historically was to spread pollination, but this has since lost its place as a tradition when they desired other things, like company. Like pollen or the seeds of a dandelion, flora colossi are known to wander when they so desire, and are a whimsical-minded race.

Society

As they are not as stiff as tree-based creatures, with stiff branches and such, flora colossi have proven capable of forming necessary instruments with their bodies to perform tasks that made for easier interaction with other creatures. Some have soothing aromas that they use to placate friend and foe alike, while others are able to use patterns on their petals to confuse and even pollen to stun other creatures. Flora colossi are able to learn languages, adjusting their plant flesh to create the necessary holes and such to emit proper noises. They are known to interact frequently with those who pass by the glades and forests they reside in, and some even actually venture out into cities. They are a bit overbearing in that they do not understand they are not always a normal sight, and they sometimes take offense to being alienated.

Flora Colossus Names

Like flowers, flora colossi do have reproductive organs within their largest flower... that is, their face. Flora colossi are classified as hermaphrodites, as they have both sets of gonads necessary for reproduction. As such, the splitting of sexes or gender is a weird idea to them. They are asexual creatures within simple names that often sound like breaths of fresh spring air, being airy and short.

Flower Powers

Power Benefit
Rose Thorn You have prickly thorns lining your arms and can extend them like whips. You know the thorn whip cantrip, and can cast it without material components. Your Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.
Dandelion Fluff You have a light body that is puffy. If you would take falling damage, you can use a reaction to instead float gently to the ground and land on your feet, taking no damage.
Pollen Burst You spew powders that trigger a series of maladies. As an action, you emit a puff of pollen from your flowers. All creatures within 15 feet of you must make a Constitution saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. Roll a d6 to determine the effect of the pollen for failed saves:
  • 1: The creature starts sneezing uncontrollably and liquid runs out of all their ocular and respiratory orifices. They spend so much time wiping that they cannot take reactions until the start of their next turn.
  • 2: The creature is lulled by the strong scent of the pollen to relax their offenses. They have disadvantage on all attack rolls until the end of their next turn.
  • 3: The creature is blinded by the intense pollen until they use an action to wipe their eyes. Creatures with blindsight and tremorsense are immune to this effect.
  • 4: The creature is stunned until the start of their next turn.
  • 5: The creature is poisoned until the end of their next turn.
  • 6: The creature falls prone.

You can use this trait once. You regain use of this trait after you finish a short or long rest.

Barbed Petals If a creature hits you with a natural weapon or unarmed attack(i.e bites, claws, kicks, etc), they take 1 piercing damage. If a creature successfully grapples you, they take 1d4 piercing damage, and do again at the start of their next turn while they're still grappling you. Additionally, since your body is covered in spines, armor must be made to fit you, else you cannot benefit from this feature. Armor made to do so costs twice as much, as it must have several dozens of extra holes in the armor while still maintaining armor quality.
Aromatherapy As an action, you emit a soothing scent from yourself to rejuvenate allies. Choose up to 4 creatures within 30 feet of you. You can expend a hit dice to have them gain either (1) a bonus on their next attack, saving throw, or skill check equal to the number rolled, or (2) regain a number of hit points equal to the number rolled. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain use of this trait after you finish a long rest.
Petal Distraction You have alarming petals that can take a color change too suddenly confuse attackers with bright flashes. As a reaction, you flash your petals. Any attack rolls against you have disadvantage until the start of your next turn. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain use of this trait after you finish a long rest.
Fruiting Flower You can cast the goodberry spell once, without any components. You must finish a long rest before using this trait again.
