Explosive Bolt (5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Cost: 100 gp per 20 bolts
Weight: ½ lb.

Explosive bolts have heads made of flint-lined steel, and are embedded with many particles of black powder. This combination causes them to explode violently when they hit a surface dead-on, what with the impact causing a spark that ignites the black powder. They are also embedded with flecks of lead, to further cause injury to victims. It takes a skilled smith to make one without hurting themselves, hence the high price per bolt.

Siege Weapon. Explosive bolts deal double damage to structures.

Exploding Shot. When you fire an explosive bolt at a creature or object and hit, the target and each creature or object within 5 feet of the target must make a Dexterity saving throw to shield itself, taking 1d6 fire damage and 1d6 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
On a miss, it can be assumed the shot hit nothing important and exploded harmlessly.

For obvious reasons, you cannot recover expended explosive bolts from the battlefield after a combat encounter is over.
