This frankly evil weapon directly stimulates the sensory input of a target's nervous system with waves of intense, agonizing pain. If damage from an excruciator rifle reduces a creature to 50 hit points or less, it is subject to agony until the end of its next turn. While a creature is subject to agony, any speed it has cannot exceed 10 feet. It also has disadvantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. Finally, if the creature tries to cast a spell, it must first succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, or the casting fails and the spell is wasted.

A creature that is reduced to 0 hit points by an excruciator rifle falls unconscious, but is stable and at no risk of dying. Excruciator rifles can run at low power setting, functioning as exceptionally effective torture tools without expending power. A creature that is not proficient with torture tools can still add its proficiency bonus to ability checks that involve the application of torture tools, and a creature that is already proficient with torture tools can add double its proficiency bonus to ability checks that involve the application of torture tools.
