<Race Name>[edit]

===Physical Description===d

Although eliatropes appear human at first glance, they are draconic in nature, and like dragons they contain a source of magic. Unlike dragons, who draw their elemental magic from distinct parts of the Inner Plane and are restricted to only one element, elaitropes hold within them a mote of the Elemental Chaos, and can bend this raw, chaotic magic to their will.

An eliatrope can be identified in multiple ways, with the most mundane being their tendency to wear hats. These hats cover a set of small raw magic wings set above their temples, which make their race obvious to any who see them and can be dangerous to interact with uncontrolled. Slightly less mundane is their ability to create short-range double-sided portals. This ability is unique among eliatropes, though many who see it may not realize just how marvelous it is. The third requires basic or complex knowledge of spellcasting, and it's the fact they draw magic raw from within themselves, rather than using the Weave. Thus, an eliatrope can cast spells without verbal or somatic components, although they typically recite them anyway to look the part. They also do not carry or disturb the Weave when preparing and casting spells.

History[edit]

The eliatropes are an ancient race, thought to have been born alongside the dragons in the Tearfall, though only surviving on the Abeir half of Abeir-Toril. Isolated from the gods of Toril and seeing only the Dragons and the Primordials, and pulsing with a raw magical energy that was rare for mortals in that pocket universe, they built their own mythology over time.

Eliatrope mythology states that the multiverse was born in a dance between the Great Goddess Eliatrope and the Great Dragon, whose name has been lost over time, but is believed to be Asgorath by Toril scholars. The Goddess Eliatrope's identity is disputed among non-eliatropes, with various Gods and Primordials and even Ao being suggested as equivalents, while others suggest she never existed at all and was simply an explanation for the events of the Tearfall. Unlike the mythology of Toril, which paints Asgorath as a balanced god containing elements of all alignments, the eliatropes' Great Dragon is a being of pure Law, and their Great Goddess, in turn, a being of pure Chaos.

In their belief of this creation myth, the eliatropes consider the dragons their siblings. This is also supported by the existence of 6 artifacts connected to their race, known as Dofus. These artifacts, filled beyond reasonable capacity with raw magic, take the form of indestructible dragon eggs. Within each, when they are not alive in the world, resides a single eliatrope and a single dragon, waiting to reincarnate. The Dofus are thought to be the first eggs of the Great Goddess and Great Dragon, and equivalent to gods in their own right. The twin pair of dragon and eliatrope inside is the same each time, and must hatch together: If one dies before the other, they must wait inside the egg for the other to die as well before they can be reborn.

The War of Fang and Talon's second phase, in which the dragons fought one another, was also one in which the firstborn eliatropes and dragons fought. While their power was already recognized by their kin, the firstborn had no hierarchy among themselves at the time, and it was then that it was established.

The era of the Rule of Dragons, though, was not lead by the eliatropes or the twin dragons. Gorloun, the first founder of a draconic kingdom, was not one of the firstborn, but instead powerful in his own right. Instead, the eliatropes settled in within the kingdoms, living alongside other humanoids and their dragon kin. The firstborn often lived as heroes, councilmen, attendants to the king, and other powerful and high-status roles, but never usurped any thrones. They did not need to, as they were already revered as mythological heroes and had long-settled their own hierarchy among themselves.

Eliatrope history would split forever, though, during the Blue Breath of Change. Known as the Spellplague to the people of Toril, areas of Abeir and Toril collided and swapped with one another. Abeir would experience the creatures of the Feywild for the first time, and Toril received the eliatropes. They are often considered to be mythological to the people of Toril, as recountings from the time of a new race unaffected by the Spellplague due to harnessing raw magic, from a split world where magic seemed to be deficient, was dismissed as either wild magic psychosis or people being fed ideas by others to exploit them.

During the Spellplague and as it died down, recounts of eliatropes were sparse yet informative. Most who saw them were simple people, and only by chance would any information be written. Still, they all told similar stories, and the stories themselves explained why few others saw them: They were adventurers, despite the times. Questing to find an artifact similar to a dragon's egg. The eliatrope people, stranded as they were, sought out the Dofus, for both assurance of their siblings' fates and with knowledge of the power the artifacts contained.

In the time of the Second Sundering, accounts of eliatropes vanished. The world itself was far too focused on its own matters to worry about the Abeir aliens, and the eliatropes had little stake in the remaking of the pantheons. The only account of the time was from a dragon, tinged with severe confusion at the man calling him a brother.

From then, the eliatropes appeared to integrate into various societies. Human looking enough, the majority of them could pass just fine as long as they kept their hats on and played as if they drew their magic from the Weave. Scholars would find a place for them in their interpretations of the Spellplague and Sundering, mostly in the place of myth. Some would claim to have found one of the Dofus, but all claims were dismissed both for their mythological status and the fact that none would advertise they held an artifact of such power.

Society[edit]

On Abeir, eliatrope society was rather advanced. Eliatropes are a race curious to a fault, and while they held great stores of magic within them, those around them did not. They turned instead to mechanics, so that their creations could be used by all. While they considered themselves brothers and sisters to the dragons of Abeir, and the dragons did them in turn, they preferred to live among other humanoids and allow the dragons to rule.

Still, they held power because of their draconic bond and ability to manipulate magic. They were often treated as superior to other humanoids, even if the eilatrope themself wished not to be. This combined with a cultural isolation in terms of their mythology, with their celebration of the firstborn and belief in the Great Goddess and Great Dragon unshared by other races.

On Toril, eliatropes tend to assimilate into the culture around them, to a degree. Their own mythology is kept close to their chest, and they rarely will worship any of Toril's Gods. Eliatropes who don't settle in are driven by their history and curiosity to become adventurers, many of whom are still in search of the Dofus.

<Race Name> Traits[edit]

Displaced Abeir natives with a connection to dragons, a source of raw magic, and the ability to create short-range portals.
Ability Score Increase. Eliatropes do not gain any increased ability scores, as aliens to Toril.
Age. Most eilatropes age at a rate equal to humans, with the exception of the firstborn.
Alignment. Eliatropes tend toward Chaotic alignments, as the Goddess Eliatrope represents all of chaos, magic, and life.
Size. Eliatropes vary widely in height, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall, but tend to be slender and athletically built. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Raw Magic. Eliatropes draw from magic within themselves, rather than from the Weave. You do not need to use verbal or somatic components for your spells, and can act as your own spellcasting focus. You are unaffected by zones of dead magic or wild magic. Intelligent creatures familiar with magic will notice if you do not emulate the components or emulate them poorly, and it's obvious if you're in a situation where you should not be able to cast spells.
Wild Wings. The wings on an eliatrope's head are made of raw magic, which can be manipulated by others. Any creature capable of casting spells that knows you have these wings and touches you can attempt to cast without verbal or somatic components and use you as a spellcasting focus. That creature must then roll on the Wild Magic Surge table.
Eliatrope Portal. As a bonus action, create a single portal up to 10ft away from you, off the ground and oriented any direction. This portal does nothing on its own, but if there are two eliatrope portals on the field, they will connect with range of 120ft. Connected portals are dual-sided and any creature or object that moves through one must exit the other. There can only be two portals at a time during combat, including those of enemies and allies. Creating a new portal when two already exist replaces the oldest portal on the field.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
Subrace. Firstborn

<Subrace Name>[edit]

Only 6 firstborn eliatropes exist, and no one is sure how many Dofus made it to Toril. Nevertheless, a firstborn eliatrope on Toril is highly likely to become an adventurer. They may be born and grow up an orphan, with only their dragon twin to rely on. They may hatch in some unsuspecting collector's hoard of artifacts, with a guardian unprepared to raise a child and a dragon. They may be seperated from their dragon twin at birth, but pulled by their bond to seek them out. All roads that lead to adventure, in some way or another. Age. Firstborn eliatropes live like dragons, not like humans. While firstborn eliatropes mature mentally at the same rate as a human, their physical development is stretched to match that of a dragon's, reaching maturity after 1000 years. They can live as long as a dragon, too, assuming something doesn't get them first.
Reincarnation. As long as a firstborn eliatrope's Dofus exists, they are effectively immortal. When both the eliatrope and dragon of a pair have died, they will rehatch from their Dofus sometime later. Neither will remember any of their past lives, but they'll often develop into very similar people.
Twin Bond. A firstborn eliatrope and their dragon twin have a minor magical bond. They are capable of recognizing each other despite any circumstance, and feel a sensation of pain and grief if their twin dies or vanishes to another plane.
Affliction.
