Ectonurite (5e Race)
Ectonurite[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
While in their protective form an Ectonurite looks very similar to a classic depiction of a ghost, but with a crack running along the skin like a seam that the lone eye is able to roam on.
While in their true form their bodies are a shade of purple (tending towards a darker hue), with an Upsidedown skull with their lone eye taking up a sole socket of the skull with the other socket tending to be filled in with bone mater, Spikes protrude from their spine with long dexterous claws taking the place of fingers.
History[edit]
The Ectonurite race formed thru a dealing between a ghost and an elder god, with the very first Ectonurite being Animus Zs'Skayr who was crowned as the High Ecto-Lord with his descendants retaining the title.
Other Ectonurites were formed thru both deals with a variety of Elder Gods and being descendants of other Ectonurites
Society[edit]
Ectonurites tend to mainly form communities for safety since their state of being between life and death has made both the forces of good and evil hunt them down. Communities are led by Ecto-Lords, who were appointed by the High Ecto-Lord.
Ectonurite Names[edit]
Ectonurites don't tend to have an active naming convention with most 1st generation Ectonurites retaining their past name, while further generations tend to be named more prestigious names due to a common belief of superiority due to their ancestry cheating death.
Ectonurite Traits[edit]
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Age. Ectonurites reach maturity at the age of 20, with an average lifespan of 1750 years
Alignment. Ectonurites tend towards a neutral alinement
Size. Ectonurites vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium. (although due to not having legs they tend to hover 1 foot off the ground)
Speed. Your base hovering and walking speed is 20 feet. You also have a fly speed of 50 feet.
Darkvision. Due to your ecto-nature, you can see in darkness for 40 feet as if it were bright light, and an additional 20 feet of dim light. With your sight being a hue of purple.
Undead Ancestry. Due to your ancestry being linked to ghosts, you have resistance to necrotic damage but cannot heal from health potions or healing spells. You are vulnerable to radiance damage.
Intangibility. As a reaction, per a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus a day, you can shift your density to phase through attacks or walls; you can also use this ability out of combat, but it draws from the same pool of charges. With all charges being regained with a short rest.
Possession. As an action you can attempt to possess a creature you touch, that creature must make a Constitution saving throw, the DC equals 10 + proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, if they succeed they cannot be passed by the same means for 24 hours, but if they fail the saving throw you are able to possess them and use their body to its full capabilities; you can use their magic, their weapons, and their racial traits and feats. While being controlled in this way, if in combat the creature can make a Constitution saving throw, the DC equals 10 + proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, while not in combat the creature makes the roll every hour, but they cannot be possessed for more than 8 hours and you can only control one creature at a time.
Lifeless Breath. Ectonurites don't need to breathe.
Protective Skin. Ectonurites can remove their protective layer of skin as an action (with regaining this protective skin also taking an action) revealing their True Form. While in the True Form you gain the following benefits and detriments:
- While in their true form Ectonurites produce a 30-foot aura of fear that any creature caught in the aura has to make a Wisdom saving throw, the DC equaling 10 + half your character's level + your Charisma Modifier, with similar rules to the fear spell once affected.
- While also in their true form Ectonurites also gain access to an eldritch wave (same damage as eldritch blast, but instead a 25ft cone).
- While in their true form they have access to their claws for a 1d4 dest slashing attack that you are proficient with.
- But while in its true form, an Ectonurite takes 1d6 damage when in direct sunlight, and is vulnerable to light-based attacks.
