Ambusher. The drop bear has advantage on attack rolls against any creature it has surprised.

Frothing Strength. The drop bear doesn't have disadvantage on attack rolls with heavy weapons.

Spellcasting. The drop bear is a 5th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). The drop bear has the following artificer spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): booming blade, light
1st level (4 slots): absorb elements, faerie fire, snare
2nd level (2 slots): alter self, magic weapon

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The drop bear makes three attacks: one with its light hammer, one with its scimitar and one with either.

Light Hammer. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) slashing damage.

BONUS ACTIONS

Weapon Juggler. The drop bear draws or stows any number of weapons.

REACTIONS

Sky Drop. When the drop bear falls and lands within 5 feet of a hostile creature, it makes a melee weapon attack against that creature. If the attack hits, the drop bear takes no falling damage and the attack deals extra damage equal to the falling damage that would have been taken.

As part of the arms race that is the jungles of Calavera, the drop bears invested in a carpenter, a sort of artificer who specializes in the creation and use of magical weapons. Along with their light hammer and scimitar, the classic weapons of a drop bear, now enhanced by magic, the drop bear carpenter may wield three additional weapons: a magical bow that fires bolts of darkness in lieu of arrows, a magical boomerang which phases through solid objects, and a magical axe which can be controlled remotely by a staff. Although these weapons are typically only wielded by their creators, drop bear carpenters are occasionally commissioned to create weapons for more powerful drop bears who have proven themselves worthy of such weapons but are above the investment of creating one on their own.

Variants: Drop Bears with Special Weapons

A drop bear carpenter can choose one of the following special weapons.

Magic Weapons. A drop bear with magic weapons has a +1 light hammer and a +1 scimitar.

+1 Light Hammer. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4 + 3) bludgeoning damage.

+1 Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) slashing damage.

Darkbow. A drop bear with a darkbow has the following action options:

Multiattack. The drop bear makes three attacks: one with its light hammer, one with its scimitar and one with its darkbow.

Darkbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 3) necrotic or psychic damage (drop bear's choice).

Seeking Battleaxe. A drop bear with a seeking battleaxe has the following action options:

Multiattack. The drop bear makes three attacks: one with its light hammer, one with its scimitar and one with its seeking battleaxe. It can use its Axe Seeking instead of its seeking axe.

Seeking Battleaxe. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) slashing damage, or 9 (1d10 + 4) slashing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.

Axe Seeking. The drop bear releases its seeking axe to hover magically in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of it. If the drop bear can see the axe, it can mentally command it as an action to fly up to 60 feet and either make one attack against a target or return to the drop bear's hands. If the hovering axe is targeted by any effect, the drop bear is considered to be holding it. The hovering axe falls if the drop bear dies.

Spectral Boomerang. A drop bear with a spectral boomerang has the following action options:

Multiattack. The drop bear makes three attacks: one with its light hammer, one with its scimitar and one with its spectral boomerang. It can use its Throwing Stick instead of its spectral boomerang.

Spectral Boomerang. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage (drop bear's choice). The weapon flies back to the drop bear whether it hits or misses.

Throwing Stick. The drop bear invokes the magic of its spectral boomerang and throws it in a 60-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 4 (1d8) slashing damage. The boomerang then returns to the drop bear's hand. Any creature that failed the first saving throw must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 4 (1d8) slashing damage.
