Drakki[edit]

Out in the wilderness, amidst a forest of silent trees and calm woodland creatures, wanders a mysterious explorer. The only sounds that can be heard are the chirps of nearby birds, the faint sound of the breeze, and the seemingly endless chattering of the explorer as he comments on his surroundings. There is not a moment where he stops to plainly observe; his thoughts flood the air as if his brilliant mind had no more room for them

An amused crowd gathers in a pub, surrounding an odd-looking creature. She seems to be popular among the group, however they are really just there to watch and laugh at the ludicrous things she chitters about and bursts into fits of laughter about. What a funny thing.

A group of children wander the forest, armed with sticks and pebbles for whatever "monsters" they might run across on their adventure. Behind them, the bushes rustle and what they can only describe as a monstrous hunter shows its self. They run in terror, screaming, and don't catch what the creature says as they flee. Little did they know it only meant kindness, and wished to bring them back to the safety of town. Oh well, chasing them down wont be too difficult, especially since they had to be so darn loud that every being in the forest must've heard them.

Drakki, used both as plural and singular, are a race of intelligent drake people that dwell just about anywhere they can make themselves welcome and comfortable. They are a nervous and jittery race and often are confused for being insane or ill. They talk to themselves frequently, almost always in fact. Though most people mistake them to be primitive and quite dumb, they are often very intelligent and just not very good at socially interacting with others.

Physical Description[edit]

At first glance, Drakki look like deformed Dragonborns. However, they differ greatly from these dragon folk. Drakki are dragon-like creatures with long snouts, long tails, and feathery, horse like manes. they have scales like snakes, but smaller. From a couple yards away you wouldn't be able to see them individually. They have pads on their hands and feet, retractable claws akin to cats and they are half digitigrades (Animals that walk directly on their toes, like cats and dogs), but only walking like this on their hind legs. Drakki have tails that are usually equal length as from the top of their heads to their pelvis, starting out as wide as the body and gradually getting thinner until it reaches a dull point. Their torsos look unhealthily thin but not anorexic. Males tend to have a broader chest, and the females do not have breasts. The last foot of their tails are covered in feathers the same color as the mane of feathers on their head and neck. Their tales are movable, and are as expressive as a cats tail. Drakki heads are shaped like dolichocephalic dog heads with larger foreheads. They have ears like Flemish giant rabbits, only rounder. They have snouts simmilar to that of an iguana, with slitted nostrils and eyes like crows. Drakki have 3 sets of canines, one at the front like normal, and the other two spaced out with 2 Pre-molar teeth inbetween them. Their dental anatomy is otherwise like a dogs.

Drakki are normally any shade of brown, tan, black, grey, white, or rust red. Rarely they can be dark blueish gray(like a Russian blue cat), swampy green, or gold in color. They can have lighter-colored underbellies of the same color as they are, as well as spots along the spine (vitilgo) or stripes like bees anywhere on the body. They can have all or none of these additional patterns. Drakki eye color can be any color except pure black or white. Exceptions to this are if the Drakki suffers from a health condition that alters the appearance of the eye in any way.

Drakki are both bipedal and quadrupedal. They spend most of their time bipedal, since it is more civilized and much more hygienic. They have a hunched-over posture when standing on two legs. They awkwardly waddle when they walk slowly and jump forwards a little with every other step when they walk fast, like crows. Running is cumbersome for them on two legs, but they can still manage it, however it looks unbalanced and often results in the Drakki tripping or falling. They switch to quadrupedal when running or traveling mainly. They look awkwardly hunched when standing still like this, like weasels. They walk and run like dogs, however are much more flexible.

History[edit]

Drakki were created by the god Fharlanghn to be traveling companions in Oerth. He created them to be versatile in their environment and resistant to harsh weather. He ended up enjoying their company, no matter how annoying they got, and decided to let them travel as they pleased, letting them roam wherever they wished.

Society[edit]

Drakki live wherever they can be welcome and comfortable. They are nomadic in nature, and live in small groups of 20-30 Drakki. These small groups have mobile tents or huts with them, as well as large nets they use to carry food and other supplies with them. They travel in cycles, usually stopping at towns for a couple days to sell items and stock on goods, then set up out into the wilderness to explore and gather natural resources. They may stay in this spot for weeks or months before heading back to a new town. They can, however, make permanent homes if they wish, creating Drakki cities in places with little to no other civilized life. These cities can be underground, in deserts, canyons, or tundras.

Drakki are usually very comfortable with one another, even if they've just met. They don't usually talk to impress or act a certain way towards certain people, they just act how they always would. This makes them seem crazy to most other races due to their lack of conversational boundaries. They do, however, have very strict physical boundaries between one another, such whereas a stranger would not come too close to another stranger, and acquaintances would not hug each other or perhaps even ever touch. Alot of their social skills depend on body language, so a touch of the shoulder could initiate a fight, or a looking at someone sideways could get you a slap.

Drakki Names[edit]

Drakki names derive from geographical features and life in the area they live, so names differ from group to group. However they can have names of things found all over the world or terms used by any traveler reguardless of location. Such names can be based off of compass directions, paths, or seasons. Surnames, however, derive from plants and animals a great ancestor either looked alike to or acted alike to, and have little relation to the area they are from
