Doppelganger's Corridor (5e Trap)
From D&D Wiki
Doppelganger's Corridor[edit]
A simple magical trap with the level changing depending on the players who fall for this trap. Dependent on the player this trap may be very dangerous as the doppelgänger has the same abilities and stats as the player. When the trap is not active the trap looks like a open gate to a small corridor but when the player enters they enter the realm and domain of the Doppelgänger which duplicates to the amount of players who have entered there realm. However when you clear the trap and get out of the realm you will find that it was actually a mirror with no reflection of living things. If you die by the doppelgänger in their realm they will replace you and be able to get out of their realm as you.
This trap is simply triggered when the player walks into the Doppelgänger's corridor, where when you enter you feel dizzy and end up in the same corridor but reversed like a mirror. The doppelgänger has the same weapon, stats, and damage as you but can move and think freely on its own with the dungeon master playing it's roll. Doppelgängers while have yet to have defeated the player can not speak, and only growl like a beast and cannot be reasoned with. This trap is rather simply avoided by using detect magic or not entering a small corridor, or see if the your shadow leads into the corridor.
