What Should I Multiclass into?[edit]

Forte 12:11, 3 December 2008 (MST)[edit]

I am a Half-Orc fighter who is going to be a full-out chain fighter. At level 10 I am effectively done with my build, and am wondering what class I should go into to compliment myself and my party. The party consists of a halfling rogue, half-elf druid, a human wizard, and of course me, the Half Orc Chain Fighter.

Oh, and to make things interesting, I am stuck with the CORE of CORE books. As in 3.5 Players Manual, DMG, and Monster Manual. That's it. Fun no?!

For a quick dip PrC you could try the Exotic Weapon Master class. I believe its only 3 or 5 levels and has some funny and melee-useful abilities.

Nevermind, just saw that you are Core.

Core only? Fighter 10? Have no more need for feats?

BARBARIAN IT UP.

Yeah, with core, I know I'd personally do one of three things:

  • 1 - Stay Fighter. When everyone is core fighter is that much more amazing. The feats can let you basically build your own spec sort of speak.
  • 2 - If I'm feeling more melee, Barbarian it up. Then you've got a good mix of trained-fighter/rage-fighter that can be fun
  • 3 - If I'm not feeling more melee and want to mix it up, I'd go Rogue. The fighter's immense feats and the rogue's skills will give you a very viable PC in many situations by 20th level.

My build depends somewhat heavily on strength (trip) so I may just do what you suggested and go barbarian for the rage. Of course, by virtue of the fact that I have 10 foot reach/threat, and the mage is somewhat enlarge person trigger happy, I generally have 20 foot reach which gives me near constant flanking opportunities which could work out to give me allot of sneak attack bonus damage. The extra skill points from either would be awesome to. I just can't decide!

Are you evil? Blackguard or Assassin could actually be pretty solid choices (and easy enough to qualify for). You can always do the Horizon Walker/Barbarian trick as well. If you pick any base class other than barbarian, however, you will get an XP penalty.
