A cutlass is a short, curved sword that was primarily used by sailors during the Age of Sail. It typically has a single-edged blade that was well-suited for chopping and hacking. The hilt of a cutlass is usually made from brass or iron, and is designed to provide a secure grip even in wet conditions. Cutlasses were often used as boarding weapons, and were also used by sailors for tasks such as cutting ropes and other rigging. They were popular during the 17th, 18th and 19th century, and were also used by pirates.
