Corodont[edit]

No one has ever seen the face hidden beneath the mask of Yurnero the Juggernaut. It is only speculation that he even has one.

Physical Description[edit]

Corodonts are creatures which have a humanoid form and orange skin. They have strong, muscular bodies that can move incredibly fast. Their necks are short and thick, nearly nonexistent. Most notable about corodonts is their masks, which are made of a special kind of ivory produced in the cavity of their chests. This ivory is believed to hold their heart. As a corodont matures, this material moves up in their body to occupy their face, which is believed to be nonexistent prior. Corodont masks are very diverse and this ivory never stops growing. The mask is like a face to them, and their eyes glow from within. It is rumored that every corodonts soul and spirit animal resides in the mask. Upon breaking it, the spirits would be released.

History[edit]

The corodonts are a race with historical ties to the ghosts of dragons. Their ancestors are believed to be watchers of dragon graves and keeper of their souls. The corodonts once inhabited the Isle of Masks, among the Ivory Isles, as one race. However, under the rule of the corrupt lord Draconius, most of the corodonts were slaughtered in a genocide by maddened dragon spirits, who destroyed them and split their masks from within. the isle itself sank beneath the waves, washed away by vengeful magic. Corodonts who were luckily away from the isle organized into small, scattered colonies. They await the day when the Ancient would be destroyed so they can begin the rebirth of their lost home.

Society[edit]

Corodonts are a race very much bound to honor. They are strictly disciplined and refrain from playfulness or mischief. Even if death comes, they do not grieve nor show weakness. Promises are held to a high standard in their societies and lying is not of their tongue. Traitors to the lords whom they swore service are either given honorable death, or exiled forever. Even though this lifestyle may seem rigged to outsiders in favor of those in power, the corodonts are more than content with this level of strictness. They believe that, without this code of honor, they would become dishonorable to the souls they bear. Corodonts are well established swordsmen, as well as healers using totems. They perform rites to the deities known as the Maker of Masks and the Faceless Ones. In modern day, they are particularly evocative of the Visage of Vengeance, which is one of the deities. As for why, it likely pertains to their desire to bring back what was lost.

Corodont Names[edit]

The corodont do not particularly care for gendering names, as they feel that relying on such a construct such as gender is too much of a distraction from their training in their lives. At the age of 12, the corodonts go through a test of courage and once it is complete, they will receive a name depending on how well they passed.
