Description[edit]
The Cog is a groundling ocean trader, popular with merchants. They usually have a protected fore and aft castle intended to serve as archery platforms, but some will dispense with the forecastle entirely, and have an unprotected aft castle. In space, Cogs are very clumsy, suffering from poor maneuverability and heavy handling which makes it difficult for a helmsman to operate. They typically are not used beyond a culture's very earliest forays into space.
Ship Variants[edit]
Armed Trader: This modified Cog has its cargo space reduced to 7 tons in order to mount a medium or heavy weapon on it. Generally unpopular because of the cut in profits such ships experience.
