Codie, the Codex Vocifera

As long as Codie is not incapacitated, they restore one lost hit point every two minutes as their torn pages mend together. The content of these pages may be unreadable or lost (at the DM's discretion), in which case Codie must be returned to the Biblioplex for restoration. Spellcasting. Codie is an 8th-level spellcaster. Their spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 14, +6 to hit with spell attacks). Codie has the following spells prepared: Cantrips (at will): acid splash, fire bolt, frostbite, infestation, shocking grasp 1st level (4 slots): animal friendship, chaos bolt, identify 2nd level (3 slots): darkness, healing spirit, ray of enfeeblement, zone of truth 3rd level (3 slots): call lightning, counterspell 4th level (2 slots): grasping vine ACTIONS Transpose Arcana. Codie expends one spell slot to allow a willing creature they can see to regain an expended spell slot of the same level or lower. REACTIONS Peer Review. Codie can take this reaction when an ally they can see casts a spell of first level or higher. If that spell deals damage, Codie casts a spell of lower level that deals the same type of damage. Otherwise, Codie casts a non-damaging spell of lower level from the same school of magic. Codie does not need to have the spell prepared in order to cast it, and casts spells with this ability without expending spell slots. Intelligence is their spellcasting ability when casting spells with this feature.

"Codie, Vociferous Codex" by Daniel Ljunggren The Codex Vocifera is a grouchily self-aware tome of mystical knowledge hailing from the Strixhaven campus on Arcavios. They wander the campus at all hours, reading their text aloud either to themself or to any unfortunate student they believe has an interest in listening. Upon witnessing spells being cast, the Codex Vocifera is prone to "suggesting" an alternative that they profess would have been better (often by casting the alternative). It is rare that others agree with their assessment of a "better" spell. The nickname "Codie" has stuck for the Codex Vocifera against their strongest objections.
