Classes in TBOI do not level, instead starting with a specific set of Items or unique traits and abilities. Progression is made through Items which provide new features and stat increases. Items you start with only count as one item even if you start with multiple.
Proficiencies are irrelevant as there is no weapons or armor, instead only add your proficiency bonus if requested by the item or feature. Max HP is only increased when an item calls for it. Some characters start with soul or dark hearts and thus begin with temporary hit points instead of regular hit points until they get an item that grants one. Refer to the soul and dark heart rules.
Unless otherwise stated each class starts with the Crybaby Feat. Starting at first item, you can fire tear projectiles from your eyes. You can fire one projectile per second (5 per turn). Your tears deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage + your proficiency bonus.
