Circle of Ley[edit]

Druid Circle

The power of the primal arcane in Grisaire has many sources. One of these is the ley lines which crisscross the planet, lying unseen from normal eyes. These ley lines are believed to be the old arteries of the body of Primus, filled with divine essence that has since stilled. However, the blood of a god as great as Primus does not lie dormant so simply. It pulsates still, generating magical energy that some druids are highly sensitive to. Recognizing this source of magic, Tribore bound these lines within the constraints of the Veil, making it able to be tamed and used by mortals safely, without being overwhelmed by the feedback that would otherwise shorten lifespans. Druids who utilize these ley lines have great strength solely within proximity to them, therefore making them vulnerable when in areas where they are not present. When using these lines, they harness an ancient energy that is often used to imbue power into otherwise powerless objects.

Ley Dependency

When you choose this circle at 2nd level, you become aware of the presence of arcane channels known as ley lines. While within 100 feet of these ancient energy sources, you can use your Wild Shape to transform into a beast with a challenge rating as high as 1. You ignore the Max. CR column of the Beast Shapes table, but must abide by the other limitations there. Additionally, your druid spells are enhanced while you use them within 100 feet of a ley line. Spells that deal damage deal an additional die of damage.

Because your power depends massively on the presence of these ley lines, you have advantage on checks to locate these lines. This can range from History checks to find lore on old lines, or Arcana checks to find magical phenomena delineating these areas.

World-building Ley Lines: Within even Grisaire, ley lines are primarily concentrated in certain areas of great repute and legend, evidential of the power welled up underneath. When defining locations of ley lines, examples include areas of death, like a haunted castle, as well as mundane miracles, like a town protected by ancient charms. Consider weaving these locations into your campaign for plot purposes in addition to providing a circle of ley druid some firepower. As per DM-fiat, some ley lines are stronger than others in power, which can affect whether a druid can utilize them or not. Ley lines generally rank from strong, present, weak, and non-present. Strong ley lines will usually be found in places of great lore or contact with magic, like a blessed land. Present ley lines may be more dormant, like beneath a lost, ancient city. Weak ley lines are sometimes the cause behind small phenomena like bountiful harvests or even undead attraction. Non-present ley lines are largely sites of no import at all in epic lore, or ravaged so that magic cannot weave through the ground, like manufactured cities and factory sites that have destroyed the land.

Magical Imbuement

Starting at 2nd level, you can infuse the power of ley lines into objects and place them under your control. You can use your action to touch an object and place it under your control. The object begins to float and you can control its movement for up to 1 minute. The object can fly up to 60 feet away from you. If it is a weapon, on your turn, you can use a bonus action to command the weapon to move up to 20 feet and attack a creature within 5 feet of it. This attack is a melee spell attack using your modifiers. On a hit, the target takes force damage equal to 1d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier.

You can imbue a number of objects equal to your Wisdom modifier at a time. When within 100 feet of ley lines, you can double this amount. Whenever you command multiple imbued objects, they move simultaneously and you can have them target the same or separate targets within range. These imbuements remain active and can still be controlled by you even while wild shaped.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all use once you finish a long rest.

Ley Stride

Starting at 6th level, you can tap into the vast network of ley lines to magically teleport from one location to another. By conducting a 1-minute ritual, you can magically teleport from your current location to another, where ley lines are at least present. You can only use this feature while within 30 feet of a strong presence of ley lines. The location you teleport to must have been visited by you already and you have to be aware of the ley lines beneath it to teleport there. The ley lines in both these locations must be at least present in strength. There is no limit on the distance between these two locations, but they must be on the same plane.

Font of Primus

When you reach 10th level, you can draw on the latent ley lines even where there are few or close to none and bring forth their potential for a limited amount of time. As an action, you summon a ley line within 30 feet of you. It has the strength of a strong line, and lasts for 1 minute. You must finish a long rest to use this feature again. After you use this feature, because you forcibly surfaced an otherwise depleted source of magic, you scar the land until it can replenish itself. All earth within a 100-foot radius of the ley line your summoned becomes barren and ravaged for 1 week. Plants cannot grow on this earth.

Ley Sanctuary

When you reach 14th level, the power of the ley lines come to your aid and ward off harm. While within 30 feet of a strong ley line, when a creature attacks you, that creature must make a Wisdom saving throw against your druid spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature must choose a different target, or the attack automatically misses.
