Cinderstar

A mage steps out of an alleyway, leaving behind the twisted remains of his last victim. In a laboratory beneath the city, a madman works tirelessly to create dark abominations to serve in his master's army. Madness flows through the world, boiling up from a pit of blood beneath it. And above it all, demons and angels fight for what is left of their world. Cinderstar is a dark fantasy or urban fantasy world with some biopunk elements. This setting is filled to the brim with immoral heroes, insane villains, and dark designs at play in every corner. This setting includes races, creatures, and classes unique to its setting, and has rules for creating custom races.

Campaign Setting Information

Players Guide Classes In the world of Cinderstar, spellcasting is fairly common and is often used for enforcing commands from powerful people or demons. Many mages, however, do not get their power from gods, nor do they have them naturally. The two ways most common on Cinderstar for gaining magic are self modification and demon pacts, Making sorcerer and warlock ideal classes. Wizardry is uncommon, but those willing to participate in and study it serve a rare role in the community as a powerful but predictable spellcaster. Their finer command over spells makes them valuable allies. Wizardry takes on a similar form as artifice, being scientifically oriented, but using magical substances instead of mundane ones. Artifice and Biomancy are not used like spellcasting, being mostly for mundane purposes. Other non spellcasting classes work as the hands and eyes of mages, demons, and other powerful beings. Rogues are often employed as mercenaries, and fighters and barbarians can be found working as hired muscle or law enforcement. Races Many unique beings have arisen from the havoc wreaked by demons, and some are more common than others. However, many unusual and anomalous beings are known to populate Cinderstar. If you have an idea for a custom race, there are rules for making one. 1: Decide with your DM if your race is acceptable for the campaign. 2: Decide on 2 abilities you want to increase. add 1 to both of them. 3: Chose 1: 3a: You gain one first level spell that you can cast once per day, or a canstrip that you can cast twice per day. Make sure this spell matches the concept for the race you chose. 3a: you gain 2 of the following traits: Darkvision out to 60 feet in dim light or 30 feet in dark light, plus one to a trait you increased in step 2, and resistance to one type of damage. 4:Review the race with your DM. Equipment Many magical items can be found in this world. Anything of uncommon rarity can be found and purchased in cities. Additionally, you can buy magic enhancing drugs, flesh armor, mercenaries, corpses, and much more! Armor Want to wear flesh? Bones? Roaches? This is the section for you! Weapons Have you ever thought about what it would be like to get stabbed by a snail rapier? How about getting stabbed in the soul? Come on down and buy some weapons! Adventuring Gear Need some sewer survival kits? Tools Easy to use surgical supplies available at your local drugstore! Potions and Poisons Don't forget to stock up on magic enhancing drugs, reanimator soup, and living ooze potions. Mounts and Animals Who needs magic items? You can buy biologically enhanced frogs. Other Goods and Services Miscellaneous things like Hired muscle, assassins, drugs... ... corpses? Spells & Magic Due to the near absence of clerics on Cinderstar, many other classes have developed healing spells, and you will also find more deadly and cruel spells devised by the demons that rule over the material plane.
