Chillborn (5e Race Variant)
Chillborn[edit]
Chillborn were once average humans who lived in cities with other humans, but when a new king came to power, he waged war against all neighboring kingdoms. When people refused to join the war, he banished them to the cold North. These people became the Chillborn. Living and adapting to these conditions over the millennium have granted them certain, innate magical abilities.
The Chillborn are the children of the frozen mountains, a race of tall and grey-haired humans from the North who are known for their incredible resistance to cold and magical frost. They are enthusiastic warriors, and many become renowned soldiers and mercenaries all over Toril. Chillborn are not a very open-hearted race and are generally untrusting of outsiders, in part due to the harsh experiences of their history. They do however get along with dwarves, as they were the ones to protect them as they adapted to their new homes up North.
Chillborn look just like humans, but they have white to grey hair, and blue or gold eyes. They usually grow their hair and beards like dwarves, and like to get dwarven tattoos. Their skin is often pale and tough like leather. Generally, they wear white or grey clothes to blend in with their environment, and their boots are usually fur, or wrapped cloth.
Ability Score Increase. Due to their dwarf like hardiness, instead of taking the average humans plus one to all stats, your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Strength score increases by 1.
Snowy Home. You ignore difficult terrain caused by shallow water, ice or snow and are naturally adapt to extreme cold as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.
Freezing Rage. As a bonus action, you go into a rage for 1 minute, provided your hit points are less than half your hit point maximum. Your skin develops a blue hue, glowing mist floating around you. Until your rage ends, you can deal cold damage equal to your level once each round on a successful melee attack. Once used, you cannot use this trait again until you complete a long rest.
Cold Hardened. You have resistance to cold damage.
