Chain Shot (5e Equipment)

Cost: 6 gp

Typically designed for cannons, though versions could conceivably exist for any ranged siege weapon, chain shot connects two weights with a heavy chain, allowing the projectile to wrap around and tear through targets, though the tumbling caused by its construction reduces overall accuracy.

Attacks using chain shot have disadvantage, but deal twice as much damage to a vehicle's propulsion. If the attack is against a creature, the target must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + the siege weapon's attack roll bonus on a hit in addition to taking damage. On a failure, they must make a Strength saving throw with the same DC. On a failure, they take bludgeoning damage equal to the attack's damage. On a success, they are restrained by a chain if they are the same size or smaller than the siege equipment.
