Celestus (5e Race)

Celestus[edit]
“ | They are divine warriors of a lost god, created to be harbingers of change - good change, normally, though they can herald bad change as well. They are beauty and grace incarnate. . . | ” |
—unknown, Annals of Celestial Genesis |
A celestus, plural celesti, is a being of lawful alignment. They have empathy, and, frankly, better thinking skills than most of the humanoid races. They can be good or evil, but are most commonly neutral.
Physical Description[edit]
Celesti are humanoid figures with white, grey, brown, or yellow skin, toned as platinum, silver, copper/bronze or gold. It is rare for a platinum-skinned celestus to appear, as they are generally heralds of great change. Normal eye colors are gemstone colors, such as onyx black, quartz white, diamond blue, amethyst purple, peridot green, clear moonstone and rarely rainbow toned stones like rainbow moonstone, iris agate, and bismuth. Hair colors are usually lighter or darker hues of the eye colors listed above. These eyes are able to transmit the power of restraint, inherited from the lawful planes, and thus allow a celestus to possibly bind enemies momentarily. Occasionally, a celestus will be born with feathered wings, which are the exact same color as their hair. If they are not born with this, they usually develop this trait later on as they mature. These vestigial wings are unable to actually fly or function, but serve as a reminder of celesti having a celestial background.
History[edit]
Celestian history is an obscure topic, rife with rumors, legends and lies. However, the celesti are confirmed to have been created by an ancient deity of lawful alignment, and as such, celesti are almost always lawful. There are few other true bits of knowledge about the celesti, mainly little bits and pieces of truth. For one, they are likely related to planetars or similar lawful celestials. The connection is unclear, due to their neutrality, though it is likely they differ heavily from aasimar and devas. One prevailing theory that is accepted in most circles is that the celestus derive their name from Mount Celestia and originated from the base level of the mountain that coincides with the Outer Plane of Arcadia. However, their tendency toward neutrality rather than pursuing the pinnacle of good caused them to be expelled into the Material Plane some millennia ago.
Society[edit]
It is not known whether or not celesti have a social hierarchy, or even any cities or settlements. It is likely that, as planar exiles and refugees, their numbers are quite small and rare. The celesti have been known to travel in small groups of 4 or 5, with a lightly colored celestus appearing to be the leader of these groups. This leads people to assume that they do have some sort of social hierarchy, with the platinum and silver skinned angels near the top. However, just as often the gold or copper-toned celesti appear to be the leaders of these groups, so no one can be sure how the celestian social hierarchy is organized.
Celestus Names[edit]
Celestus names are in their own tongue, Celestusian, which is actually a dialect of Celestial. Only lawful entities may speak these names or this language. It is highly related to the language of Celestial, and uses the same alphabet.
Male: Ÿeāde, Añesume, Êasive.
Female: Ísañae, Eféase, Sâvenï.
Celestus Traits[edit]
Celesti are a race created by a forgotten lawful deity.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Wisdom and Constitution scores each increase by 1.
Age. The age of maturity for a celestus is 560 years old. The average lifespan of a celestus is unknown, due to the fact that a celestus will outlive most anything that could document the lifespan of a celestus.
Alignment. They are almost always lawful and never chaotic. They usually end up lawful neutral, though some are occasionally lawful good or evil.
Size. A celestus ranges in size from 5 feet to 7 feet tall. Their wingspan ranges typically from 10 to 14 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a flying speed of 30 feet. You cannot wear medium armor or heavy armor and use this flying speed.
Darkvision. Because of your divine heritage, you can see in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Unearthly Grace. While unarmored, your armor class is equal to 12 + your Charisma modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Radiance. You know the the light cantrip. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.
Stunning Gaze. As a bonus action, you can direct your sight and focus on one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you and attempt to bind their movements with your own will versus their body. The target must make a Constitution saving throw against a DC of 8 + your Charisma score + your proficiency bonus. On a failed save, they are stunned until the end of their next turn. You can use this trait a number of times equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down), regaining one use after you finish a short rest and all uses after you finish a long rest.
Divine Communication. Due to your creation, you've been endowed with the ability to speak mentally with any intelligent creature. You can speak telepathically to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. Your telepathic utterances are in a language you know, and the creature understands you only if it knows that language. Your communication doesn't give the creature the ability to respond to you telepathically.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write in Common and Celestial.
