Caledorian Dragon Mage Bloodline (5e Subclass)
Caledorian Dragon Mage Bloodline[edit]
Your innate magic comes from your ancestral ties to Caledor and the Sun Dragons. Long ago, in the Kingdom of Caledor on the Elven home-continent of Ulthuan, a young elven mage found he had an innate talent in both the winds of magic and his connection with dragons. He awoke a Sun Dragon from its deep slumber and rode it into battle, and thus earned for himself the title of Dragon Mage.
Ever since then a few select mages in every generation from the Kingdom of Caledor find they have a strong connection with the Sun Dragons that slumber beneath Caledor. These mages are gifted in the usage of fire magic, and have the ability to form deep connections with the Sun Dragons beneath Caledor. They tend to be brash and fiery, like the element and creatures they have a connection with.
As a result of their bloodline Dragon Mages are especially talented with fire and have a deep connection with Sun Dragons. Their traditions also allow them to access abilities and tools usually reserved for Dragon Princes, such as the ability to craft and use Dragon Armor.
Note: This Subclass is inspired by Warhammer Fantasy Battles, specifically Dragon Mages of the High Elves. It can be used in any setting but talk to your DM about how the class would fit into the world you will be playing in.

Lore of Fire[edit]
Your ties to Sun Dragons the give you special influence over Aqshy, the Lore of Fire.
At 1st level you gain the ability to better harness the Lore of Fire to your fiery ends. You can re-roll any damage dice that roll a one when casting a spell that does fire damage, you must use the second result. Additionally if using any kind of weapon in melee you may add fire damage equal to your Charisma Modifier (minimum of one) on a hit, you cannot damage your weapon doing this even if it is a wooden staff. You also may use your Charisma modifier when making melee weapon attacks in place of the strength or dexterity modifier.
Sun Dragon Affinity[edit]
You have innate and deep connections to the Sun Dragons. This manifests in your abilities and can (and often does) manifest in your personality.
You can read and write Draconic. Additionally you can speak psychically to any Sun Dragon within a 1 mile radius and can double your proficiency bonus when performing a Charisma check when interacting with a Sun Dragon. (If you are not playing in the Warhammer setting exchange Sun Dragons for all Fire-Breathing Dragons such as Bronze, Gold, and Red.)
Dragon Mages tend to wade into the depths of battle when not riding a Dragon (or even when they are). You gain proficiency with Light and Medium Armor. In addition you do not suffer any penalties when using spells within 5 feet of their target, and you gain an advantage on constitution saving throws you make to maintain concentration when you are attacked in melee.
Heart of Flame[edit]
At 6th level you gain resistance to fire damage. Additionally whenever you cast a spell other than a cantrip that deals fire damage you are surrounded in a wreath of flame. In addition to the spells effects, creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you take fire damage equal to half your Sorcerer level.
Dragon's Fury[edit]
At 14th level you are even more at home in the heat of battle. When you are attacked in melee you may use your reaction to deal fire damage equal to your Sorcerer level. The attacker must also make a Constitution saving throw equal to your Spell Save DC. On a failed save the attacker takes an additional 1d6 fire damage.
Dragon Mage of Caledor[edit]
At 18th level you gain access to the grand traditions of your bloodline.
You can now triple your proficiency bonus when performing a Charisma check when interacting with a Sun Dragon. (If you are not playing in the Warhammer setting exchange Sun Dragons for all Fire-Breathing Dragons such as Bronze, Gold, and Red.)
Additionally you gain access to Dragon Armor. You may, over the course of a full 24 hour period, turn a set of armor into Dragon Armor. This armor, when worn, makes you immune to fire damage and allows you to substitute your Charisma for your Dexterity when it comes to the Dragon Armors Dex modifier. This armor can only be worn by you, if anyone else tries to wear it they take 4D10 fire damage every minute they wear it.
