Buzzy Beetle (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Buzzy Beetle[edit]
Medium humanoid, neutral Armor Class 17 (natural armor)
Saving Throws Con +4 Adept Landing. The buzzy beetle takes no falling damage from heights equal to or below 50 feet. Spider Climb. The buzzy beetle can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. ACTIONSBite. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage. Shell Defense. The buzzy beetle ducks into its shell, gaining a +1 bonus to AC and resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks. In this state, the buzzy beetle can't take bonus actions except to come out of its shell. It can also take an action to use its Shell Toss, which also accompanies its movement. The buzzy beetle cannot use Shell Defense while on a wall or ceiling. Shell Toss. The buzzy beetle rapidly spins its shell before launching 30 feet in a straight line. While traveling, the buzzy beetle can bounce off of walls to continue its movement. In such a case, the buzzy beetle continues traveling in a straight line for the remainder of its movement or until it reflects off of another wall. REACTIONSDetach. In response to a creature moving within 5 feet of the ground directly below the buzzy beetle as it is climbing, the buzzy beetle detaches to fall down onto it. The target must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking damage equal to half the falling damage the buzzy beetle would have taken without its Adept Landing feature on a failure. The buzzy beetle then lands in the nearest unoccupied space. Shell Defense. In response to taking damage from an attack that deals bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, the buzzy beetle can immediately use its Shell Defense. |
Buzzy beetles are known primarily for their fire-proof shells and wall-walking capabilities. They are commonly found in dark areas such as caves and the underbellies of large cities, where they wait to drop on unsuspecting passerby. Despite being quadrupeds, they are not mere animals and are actually a type of koopa, making them smarter than they appear. Some of them have joined Bowser's Minions, and guard the caverns of Bowser's territories, their superior darkvision and toughness making them more fit for the job than the standard koopa troopas. |
