Bladeweed (5e Hazard)
From D&D Wiki
Bladeweed[edit]
Bladeweed, also known as bladegrass, swordgrass, razorgrass, or razorweed, is a common invasive plant species. It resembles tall grass, but with wider, thinner leaves that are as stiff as metal and possess razor-sharp edges.
A section of bladeweed patch occupies a 5-foot cube area and is considered difficult terrain. A creature of size Small or larger that moves into a patch of bladeweed takes 12 (5d4) slashing damage for every 5 feet they travel while in the patch. On its turn, a Small or Medium creature can attempt to move through the bladegrass carefully, succeeding on a DC 12 Dexterity check to move up to half its speed through the patch without taking damage. A creature has disadvantage on this check if it is taking the Dash action.
It is unknown whether or not bladeweed was a naturally-evolved plant or a magically-created one. It is not uncommon, however, for secluded magic users to cultivate patches of bladeweed in the local area surrounding their lairs to deter intruders. A patch of bladeweed initially spreads quite quickly until the local fauna wise up to it, its growth fueled by the shredded remains of creatures that it has efficiently reduced into both fertilizer and bait.
