Blacksmith Fighter (5e Feat)
Blacksmith fighter
Prerequisites: Proficiency in smith's tools
Why should you create a sword that you cannot use
- You gain proficiency in smith's tools. If you are already proficient in Smith's tools, you add double your proficiency bonus to checks you make with them, in addition when crafting you may use half of the materials
- When you have access to a forge, you can make a modification to a weapon; these weapons now have the type 'Tinkered' for proficiencies.
- When you use a weapon with the 'Tinkered' trait, you may add your smith's tools bonus to attack and damage rolls instead of str or Dex, and the weapon's critical hit range expands by one (I.e. becomes 19-20 normally, or 18-20 if you critical on a 19)
- Also, you can modify shields. A modified shield no longer falls under the Shield proficiency, but also becomes 'Tinkered' A shield can have these modifications:
• Light: You can make an free attack with this shield for 1d6 bludgeoning damage as a bonus action, use Smith's tools for the attack and damage rolls, the weapon damage is raised to 1d8 if when you rolled your smith's tool you got above a 20 • Thrown: You can fling your shield as a bonus action for 1d6 bludgeoning damage as a bonus action, use Smith's tools for the attack and damage rolls, the weapon returns to you if when you rolled your smith's tool you got above a 20
- A weapon with the Tinkered trat can have up to 4 of these abilities, based on a smith's tool check, (10=1, 15=2, 20=3, 4=25)
•Add a 1d8 of 1 magical damage (can stack) •Add a magical +2 damage •Upgrade the damage; pick the next-higher damage dice. This also applies to the secondary damage (EX, 2d6->3d6) •Rase the damage dice by one(Ex: 1d6->1d8)
