Black Mage (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Medium humanoid (any race), any alignment
cantrips (at will): fire bolt, lightning lure, message, ray of frost
*The black mage casts this spell on itself before combat.
**The spell save DC for these spells is 16 rather than 14.
Umbral Ice. When the black mage casts a spell of 2nd level or higher that deals cold damage, it regains an expended spell slot of a level lower than that of the spell.
Quarterstaff. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage, or 4 (1d8) bludgeoning damage if wielded in two hands.
Black mages are spellcasters who focus on the destructive aspects of the arcane. They eschew almost all forms of utility magic and the broader applications of evocation in favor of obliterating their foes with fire, ice and lightning.
Hellish Heat. Through decades of study and intense training a black mage learns to intensify her fire magic. The flames she conjures are hotter than normal and more difficult to quench, allowing her to reduce all but the hardiest of foes to cinders.
Thermoregulation. A black mage is no mere pyromaniac. She masters a variety of spells that can kill with ice as well. Beyond freezing enemies to death, these spells serve a secondary purpose of cooling her off after the immense heat buildup of her fire spells, helping her to conserve her magical energies. In a protracted fight, a skilled black mage will alternate between fire spells and ice spells in order to maximize the number of spells she can cast overall.
