Abilities[edit]
Bird of Prey
The bird of prey companion gains the same bonuses that the hunter does when in the hunter's favored terrain type.
Scout
Once per day, the hunter can send her companion to scout an area, where it will gather information about the environment. The hunter must make a handle animal check (DC 25) to send her companion out successfully. A hunter that beats a DC of 35 will send her companion out for twice as long, searching farther and gaining a +3 to perception. The companion is considered to take note of everything it is able to see.
When her companion returns, the hunter makes a handle animal check to retrieve information. If looking for something out of the ordinary, the hunter adds her bonus to the handle animal roll.
DC | Information |
---|---|
20 | The hunter is able to glean a small amount of information from her companion to learn what it saw. Large scale general details are understood. |
35 | The hunter has a fair understanding of what her companion was able to see, but is not able to learn of any precise details. |
50 | The hunter has a complete mental map created of the area surveyed by her companion, including any specific details she was looking for that her companion was able to see. |
Keen Eyesight
The bird of prey gains a +5 bonus to all perception checks. When the hunter is using the sight ability, she gains a the same bonus to perception checks.
Diving Charge
When the hunter has her companion use the barreling charge ability, the bird of prey has to dive from the sky. If the bird of prey was not already in the air, it must take a full round action to climb before taking another full round action to dive into its target. Due to its speed, the bird of prey has a +5 to hit instead of a +3, and deals 1d8 + 4 points of bludgeoning damage + 1d4 points of slashing damage. The target's strength roll is opposed by the bird's damage roll + 10. Instead of being pushed back 5 feet on a successful strength check, the target is knocked prone. If the target's strength roll is beaten by at least double, it is dazed for one round in addition to being knocked prone.
