Bestiary (Sylfaen Supplement)

In Sylfaen, most places that are not protected by imperial walls or outside imperial roads are the home of terrible creatures, ranging from dangerous beasts, such as wolves and bears, to monstrosities from other dimensions, such as demons. Below are described some of the most relevant categories of monsters that can be found in the world, alongside with some lists of creatures per region of the world.

The Demonic Threat[edit]

Demons can be found all around Sylfaen, but they are especially prevalent in Daear, due to the constant attempts of weaponizing demons by demonic cults, the dwarvish empire and some of tyrian institutions. Demons in sylfaen will rarely attack travelers or settlements if they think this could bring attention to their presence. They will rather corrupt the minds and souls of humanoids, doing their bidding in exchange for worship.

Draconic Extinction[edit]

All dragons have seemingly perished in an age way before the first humanoid civilizations were born. There's speculation about scholars on the nature of this event, but no "true dragons" seem to exist. There are, however, what magisterium sages call "Proto-dragons", such as dragonborn, wyverns and other creatures who are mutations and inferior versions of true dragon. There's speculation that true dragons still exist, although hidden, but most respectable sages dismiss these types of stories as nonsense and fairy tales.

Orc Pirates[edit]

After being defeated during the Expansion Wars, the orcs who chose to not bend the knee and serve the empire fled to either the northern wastes or to the sea. Those who traveled to the sea eventually realized that some regions were untouched by the imperial magic, and that they could take control over that region. That was the beginning of the age of piracy for orcs, and many orc clans have turned to piracy to take some form of revenge against the empire.

The Witch Woods[edit]

In the territory of Eldor, to the south of the Daerian continent, there is a large presence of hags and witches, due to the existence of a rift connecting the material plane with the feywild, creating a location that merge both planes into a demiplane called Witch Woods. Within the woods, not only powerful hags rule over their dominions there, but the place is also a destination for witches wanting to form pacts with powerful entities and learn powerful secrets. The woods are dangerous, and almost anything of wondrous or terrifying (especially the terrifying stuff) that exists on the Feywild can probably be found there.
