Bear Bees live in large hives created in or around caves, typically in groups of 10 including a queen Bear Bee. They keep to themselves and generally won't bother others unless the are provoked. They have the appearance of a barrel sized bear but with large wings of a bee, striped fur, and a stinger where a tail would be.

Bear Bee Lore[edit]

A character knows the following information with a successful Arcana check.

DC 10: Bear Bees are passive, and will not attack unless threatened.

DC 15: Bear Bees secrete a magical allergen that for some can be highly dangerous if not fatal.

DC 20: Bear Bees were created after a sudden cold snap killed a majority of honey producing bees. A committee of concerned aristocrats commissioned the creation of a species of bees that could survive the cold, this resulted in the ultimately successful merging of bears and bees. Bears were chosen due to their endurance and ability to hibernate during winter. The wizards involved decided to imbue their creation with timidness to reduce the chances of it becoming a flying Owlbear. While this worked, the magic also inadvertently enhanced the Bear Bee's sting to a far more lethal version.
