Aztec/Nauhuatl (5e Pantheon)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Aztec Pantheon has many gods to choose from and a lot of potential for world building and intrigue.

In the World:[edit]

The pantheon is split into three groups: The Big Four, the main deities who have temples in almost every city or town and have dominion over many domains, Major Gods, common deities with temples and shrines in most big cities, and Minor Gods, gods with a few temples scattered throughout the land. It should be noted that all the gods are powerful and that these distinctions mainly reflect numbers of followers and temples.

As a DM or cleric/paladin of these gods, you should not be forced to use human/intelligent life sacrifices if you do not feel it is appropriate for the setting/characters.

A good source of tension is between the followers of Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca since both gods hate each other. This can take the form of espionage, political maneuvering, or outright conflict.

It is suggested that anyone using this pantheon read up on their Aztec mythology, as this list is mainly for gameplay proposes.
