Astromech (5e Race)

Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: This race has poorly worded traits. The proper syntax for things like even ASI are absent. You get a flat 30ft flying and a weird electric arm that doesn't actually explain how it works (is this an action attack or something??). Locked in is also a very vague ability given that it is a very specific environment interaction and doesn't actually use any mechanics.

Astromech[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

R-series droids had three wheeled legs. The later BB-series astromech droids were spherical, giving them the ability to roll. Some astromechs, such as OC-JK14, were moved on treadwells. Though this style was once popular in the Outer Rim Territories, it had fallen out of favor by 35 ABY.

History[edit]

Astromech droids, also referred to as astro droids or mechs, were a type of repair droid that served as an automated mechanic on starships. These compact droids used tool-tipped appendages stored in recessed compartments. Many starfighters relied on astromech copilots to control flight and power distribution systems. Sitting in an astromech socket exposed to space, the droid, in addition to its piloting duties, could calculate hyperspace jumps and perform simple repairs. The astromedic was a mix between an astromech and a medical droid. Most astromechs were only able to communicate in writing, conveyed via another computer system, or through a special code of clicks, bleeps, and similar sounds, known as binary. However, certain other droids, such as the protocol droid C-3PO, could understand the binary code of astromechs, and often translated from binary to other languages.

Astromech Traits[edit]

Astromech Droids
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Constitution by 2 and Dexterity by 1
Age. They do not age in the actual sense they do however over time begin to rust or lose power if not properly attended too, they are basically immortal if not destroyed or abandoned.
Alignment. Any.
Size. Astromechs can have different heights.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 and your base flying speed is 30
Electric Zapper. you sprout a mechanical looking arm from within your body and imbue it with electricity, this can be used on water electronics or any creature within 5 ft range of you, when a creature is hit by this they take 2d6 lightning damage. (may do more to other droids but that's up to the dms discretion)
Superior Darkvision.. Your darkvision has a range of 120 feet, instead of 60.
Strong plating. AC = 10 + Dexterity + Constitution cannot gain any additional AC bonuses from Armor sets.
Locked in. Anytime You come across a port point on a ship you're able connect to it via the port connector from one of the arm extensions from inside your body, when doing this you can do 1 of 3 things.

1. Turn off all power to the vessel or place you're inhabiting. (this is different to ability 3 as it turns off all power as oppose to just the lights eg. if you used this on a moving vessel it would immediately stop functioning)

2. Broadcast a message through the vessel or places comms if they have any (when a message is broadcasted this way it will sound like a robotic voice spoken in common this broadcast can be applied to both you and or your allies).

3. You Can turn off all lights in the vessel or place you're inhabiting possibly causing blindness to those who don't have ways around it (like darkvision, nightvision, true sight etc...).
Languages. You can speak, read, and write in binary code.
