Ascendant Tiefling (5e Race Variant)
From D&D Wiki
Tiefling Variant[edit]
You don't have the racial trait darkvision.
History: Ascendant tieflings are the product of an attempt by the goddess Mystra, to rescue the human babies who were given to Asmodeus to seal an ancient pact, in which he infused his essence into their bloodline. While in the attempt, Mystra was unable to rescue all of the human children, she was able to save a few (five, to be exact); Thus, all ascendant tieflings are descendants from these original five. Soon after the children were brought to the upper plane of Elysium, she discovered that they had not been saved in time and Asmodeus had already infused them with his essence. Distraught with this knowledge, Mystra acted hastily and without care for what would happen, and attempted to infuse her own essence with the children with the hopes that it would counteract Asmodeus's wicked essence. She was mostly successful in her attempt, as the children grew and were raised on the material plane to become followers of good, but the essence of Asmodeus was only suppressed rather than completely snuffed out. Because of this, the children retain some of the same features as their infernal brethren.
Appearance: They have less prominent horns that never pierced their skin, and instead just protrude from under it. They also have a thin tail that is 2-3 ft long. Their eyes are of solid color, typically white, blue, green, silver, or gold, with the infernal essence in them causing the edges to be tinged red or black, with the tinge increasing in intensity when upset or nervous (such as in combat). Their skin tones tend toward the lighter end of the spectrum, ranging from a very pale white to a dark silver and sometimes even a prominent gold. Their hair is also typically light, with most having light blonde hair and some having tinges of silver, gold, and some even blue or green. Most of them are known to be very beautiful in the face. Even with their beauty, though, they are still plagued by their protrusions from their forehead and this along with their tail and solid color eyes has led to them being ridiculed and mistrusted by other races, much like their counterparts.
Age: While infernal tieflings age at the same rate as humans but for a few extra years of life, ascendant tieflings age much slower, typically outliving their infernal counterparts by as much as 50 years, with the oldest known ascendant tiefling having lived to be 167.
Size: Ascendant tieflings have a similar build to humans. Your size is Medium.
Alignment: The ridicule they suffer, paired with the ebbing essence of Asmodeus within them, typically leads them to lean to the chaotic alignments, with most being chaotic good or neutral good, with a few being chaotic neutral.
Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Celestial Resistance: Once per day, you can choose to have resistance to either cold, thunder, or poison damage. This resistance stays until you change it. Not choosing a new resistance every day does not allow the charges to stack.
Celestial Legacy: You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. At 3rd level, you can cast the thunderwave spell as a 2nd level spell once per day. At 5th level you can cast alter self once per day. Charisma is the spellcasting ability for these spells.
Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial.
