Antaeud (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Antaeud[edit]
To have a giant's strength;
But it is tyrranous
To use it like a giant.
More than a thousand years ago, after the fall of the giants and the beginning of the savage times, a small group of humans, orcs and giants united to survive. Through the centuries these races merged, until finally they were one: antaeuds.
Physical Description[edit]
By Gustave Doré |
Antaeuds are extremely large and powerful humanoids. Their physical appearance, height and size, however, can vary a lot. Their height can go from a "short" 9 feet to an amazing 12 feet. Their weight can vary from 400 to 800 pounds. Their colouring is also variable: from pale blue skin to a deep grey and from white eyes to black. This is due to the crazy mix of giant, orc and human blood.
History[edit]
Antaeuds are descendants from the union of humans, orcs, and cloud, ice, stone and storm giants. They live in a gigantic and heavily fortified city called Urrgarda. The first creature of such a union, Antaeus, is celebrated as a religious figure and the ruling family of Urrgarda claims to be of his direct bloodline. The antaeuds have maintained fairly rigid bloodlines throughout their history, so that different types of "giant blood" are rarely mixed.
Society[edit]
Antaeud society is made up of a strict caste system. The different castes are: rulers, warriors, shamans and workers. While each bloodline has a tendency to be found in a specific caste, an antaeud is free to choose a different caste if he or she so desires. It stands to reason that antaeud society is deeply conservative. However, citizens of Urrgarda descent, even the more rebellious ones, are treated with dignity and are believed to have unviolable rights. The worst sentence a citizen of Urrgarda can receive in their courts is banishment: to never return to the walled city. These exiles are the antaeuds only face in society outside their own walls. In the outside world, their blood is reviled as unnatural and many would have a hard time concealing their mixed lineage. Many end up working in hard labor to utilize their strength.
