Long ago, the Ancient Ones realized the secret to manipulating matter. To do so, they channeled powers from the depths of their mind, allowing them to transmute light into matter and back again. However, when the matter was created, an equal amount of deadly necrotic energy was also created. Some realized the potential power and evolved so as to control this negative energy instead. Those who saw the evil that could spring from this immediately tried to stop it, but it was too late. When the conflict ended, only those that used the negative energy were left. However, prolonged exposure to this energy had changed them.

Play an Ancient One if you want...

  • To channel bursts of negative energy at your foes.
  • To be a race of corrupt-minded demi-beasts with a taste for destruction.
  • To be a member of a race that favors the Bard, Engineer, Mage, and Rogue classes.

Physical Qualities[edit]

Their constant exposure to negative energy has permanently mutated their physique. They have thick, dark, scale like skin infused with residual negative energy. They are quick, agile, and deadly. They have black, crimson, brown, or grey scale-skin. Their eyes are red, silver, black, or green. They have hard, spiked protrusions all over the top of their heads.

Playing an Ancient One[edit]

Play an Ancient One if you want to annihilate your foes with blasts of anti-matter or just be an evil, cruel, malicious, killing machine with no self control at all. Just go out and disintegrate the enemy! Ancient Ones were corrupted by the anti-matter to such a degree that their minds are only half there. They lack self control and morals. They are always Chaotic Evil and just generally hate all of existence.

Ancient One Adventurers[edit]

Three sample ancient one adventurers are described below.

Terrorwrath is an Ancient One Avenger. He always dreamed of ripping the innards from little Halflings. He imagined their screams of anguish in his daydreams. He loves his job. He has forgotten what god he is technically serving, but that doesn't stop him from searching out small humanoids for his amusement. His party members insist that Halflings are right out, not only because it is, as they call it, "wrong", but there is a Halfling in the party, Jillian. Jillian hides from Terrorwrath constantly and plays pranks on him whenever possible. Terrorwrath is convinced it must be some greater being committing these acts against him. He figures that nothing less than a god would dare invite HIS wrath.

Despair Is an Ancient One Swordmage. She loves slicing through her enemies, and then watching them look down to see their lack of a torso, before they fall to the ground, dead. She has spent so long killing for the sake of killing she is starting to wonder if there is more to her existence than ending that of others. She continues to kill, out of habit, wherever she goes but is now in search of some other purpose. She was on this search when she happened upon a young Elven man in a forest. He was helping a bear that had become pinned under a fell tree trunk. His action and appearance intrigued her for some unknown reason. Despair has resolved to follow and study this man, at least for now.

Fester is an Invoker of Bane, and if he is having a good day then you will die swiftly. If not, there is no point in running. It is best if you fall over and pretend to have just died. He may not see the point in mutilating your body. At least, that was Fester before the accident. He can't remember what the accident was, who perpetrated it, or why he was involved but it has occurred all the same. Now, his anti-matter armor gives off the fragrant smell of cinnamon and multicolored bubbles keep popping out of it. The bubbles follow him everywhere and, try as he might, he cannot pop them all. The use of the word "frustrating" would be unwise.
