Amazon[edit]

Women are frail and weak! Do you really think you stand a chance?
—Last words of Gharok orc Barbarian

Amazons are virgin warriors blessed by a female deity to further their cause. Amazons are agile and rely on spears and archery to take down their foes. Amazons are legendary hunters both honourable and brave capable of overcoming incredible obstacles. Amazons are able to ride almost any mount. The most powerful amazons are granted a wondrous Pegasus from their deity.

Becoming an Amazon[edit]

Those who want to be amazon seek Divina, a state of pure union with nature and their deity. Amazons need Dexterity above anything, constitution is crucial for extra hit points. Strength is less important for an amazon who specialize in ranged combat. Wisdom affect spellcasting and charisma affect many class feature.

Class Features[edit]

The amazon's class abilities focus on improving her battle skills, except for some minor abilities. All of the following are class features of the amazon.

Spells per Day: Upon attaining each new level in amazon, the character gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class to which she belonged before adding a level in prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefits a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that she adds the level of amazon to the level of another spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly. She do not gain this benefit every levels; see the amazon table above.

Bow and Spear Mastery (Pride): An amazon may add her amazon level to her fighter level for the purpose of determining her effective fighter level for the Weapon Specialization feat tree with the spear, shortspear, longbow and shortbow. Thus, 4th level amazon may take Weapon Specialization with either spear, shortspear, longbow or shortbow. A 12th level amazon or a (4th level amazon and 8th level fighter) may take Greater Weapon Specialization with the said weapons and a 18th level amazon may take Weapon Supremacy (PH2p.85).

Code of Pride and Honour (Pride and Honour): Amazons follow a strict code of honour and "pride", it restricts their actions but blesses them, too.

This code restricts the amazon code of conduct, see below. The code has a few benefits:

  • If dominated or charmed and asked to violate a part of their code, an amazon gets an immediate extra save against the domination effect.
  • As above, but if asked to break a critical part of the code the amazon gets a +5 Holy/Unholy Bonus to her will save resisting the effect, she also gain an extra save each 1d4 rounds.

Athleticism (Ex)(Pride): Amazons are able to push themselves farther, as they are both trained and blessed in their physical abilities.

An amazon increases her base land speed by 10ft and gets a +2 bonus to Swim, Climb and Jump Checks .

Bold (Ex)(Pride): Amazons are brave women, and they do not tremble before mundane obstacles; sometimes even magic cannot overcome their boldness.

Amazons are immune to all fear-based effects.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex)(Pride): '"Amazons are used to perilous situations, and they are always on their guard.

At 2nd level, an amazon retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, she still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. If an amazon already has uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead. Amazons can only benefit from this class feature if they are wearing light armor or no armor and not carrying a heavy load.

Improved Archery (Ex)(Pride): Amazons are superior archers: they are able to shoot farther than any men can; some of them can even shoot beyond their range of eyesight.

At 3nd level, an amazon increases the range increment of any bow or spear (throwing) by 10 ft. Thereafter, this bonus doubles each 3 levels (3, 6, 9, 12...) to a max of 320ft at level 20; these bonuses overlap, they do not stack.

Evasion (Ex)(Pride): Amazon are fast, agile and if they do not encumber themselves they are able to completely dodge the wrath of an angry mage or sorceress.

At 3nd level and higher, an amazon can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the amazon is wearing light or no armor. A helpless amazon does not gain the benefit of evasion. Amazons can only benefit from this class feature if they wear light armor or no armor and do not carry heavy loads.

Divine Mount (Honour): Amazons are granted powerful gifts by the divinity they revere, the most beautiful of those gifts are the Pegasus...

Upon reaching 4th level, an amazon gains the service of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal Pegasus to serve her. This mount is a Pegasus.

Once per day, as a full-round action, an amazon may magically call her mount from the plane in which it resides. The mount immediately appears adjacent to the amazon and remains for 2 hours per amazon level; it may be dismissed at any time as a free action. The mount is the same creature each time it is summoned, though the amazon may release a particular mount from service.

Each time the mount is called, it appears in full health, regardless of any damage it may have taken previously. The mount also appears wearing or carrying any gear it had when it was last dismissed. Calling a mount is a conjuration (calling) effect.

Should the amazon’s mount die, it immediately disappears, leaving behind any equipment it was carrying. The amazon may not summon another mount for thirty days or until she gains an amazon level, whichever comes first, even if the mount is somehow returned from the dead. During this thirty-day period, the amazon takes a –1 penalty on attack and weapon damage rolls.

Maiden's Grace (Ex)(Pride): Some amazons are blessed by their own grace, this gift increases their chance of survival dramatically.

The amazon may add her Charisma modifier to all her saving throws (this effect does not stack with similar effects). Amazons can only benefit from this class feature if they wear light armor or no armor.

Divine Light (Ex)(Honour): Amazons already blessed may receive the personal protection of their deity, deflecting attacks from them.

Divine Light substitutes Maiden's Grace if the amazon already have another source of such blessing (Paladin's Divine Grace, for example.).

Divine Light grant a sacred or profane bonus to AC equal to the Amazon Charisma Modifier. Note: This is one of the prerequisites for the Valkyrie heroic class. Amazons can only benefit from this class feature if they wear light armor or no armor.

Olympic Skill (Ex)(Pride): Amazon warriors are able to unleash even greater athletic abilities as they grow in power. Their ability to run, swim even longer than most men increases.

Increase base base land speed by 10ft (increase also swim and climb speed if any) and add a bonus of +2 to Swim checks made to resist nonlethal damage, Constitution checks made to continue running, Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from a forced march.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex)(Pride): Sometime, people wonder if the amazon deity do not whisper them the awaiting dangers....

At 5th level and higher, an amazon can no longer be flanked. This defence denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack the amazon by flanking her, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target has amazon levels. If a character already has uncanny dodge (see above) from a second class, the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge instead, and the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack to determine the minimum level a rogue must be to flank the character. Amazon can only benefit from this class feature if they wear light armor or no armor and do not carry heavy load.

Improved Evasion (Ex)(Pride): Amazon are able to avoid almost everything, in some tales, legendary amazon are able to avoid even rain....

This ability works like evasion, except that while the amazon still takes no damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks henceforth she henceforth takes only half damage on a failed save. A helpless amazon does not gain the benefit of improved evasion. Amazon can only benefit from this class feature if they wear light armor or no armor and do not carry heavy load.

Maiden's Pride (Ex)(Pride): Amazon are extremely prideful. When they are on the border of defeat, their pride push them even further.

Increase the power of an amazon when:

Health below 50%: Add +1 to all saves, attack and damage rolls.

Health below 25%: Add +2 to all saves, attack and damage rolls and AC.

Health below 15%: Add +3 to all saves, attack and damage rolls and AC.

Health below 5%: Add +4 or Charisma modifier (whichever is higher) to all saves, attack and damage rolls and AC.

Bonus Feat: May select any feat from the fighter, you must still match the prerequise to take a particular feat.

Epic Bonus Feat: An amazon may choose any of these feats (as long as she match the prerequise) as her amazon's bonus feat: Epic Fighter Bonus Feat List: Armor Skin, Combat Archery, Damage Reduction, Devastating Critical, Dire Charge, Distant Shot, Energy Resistance, Epic Endurance, Epic Leadership, Epic Prowess, Epic Toughness, Epic Weapon Focus, Epic Weapon Specialization, Exceptional Deflection, Improved Combat Reflexes, Improved Manyshot, Improved Whirlwind Attack, Infinite Deflection, Instant Reload, Legendary Commander, Legendary Rider, Legendary Wrestler, Overwhelming Critical, Penetrate Damage Reduction, Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting, Reflect Arrows, Spellcasting Harrier, Storm of Throws, Superior Initiative, Swarm of Arrows, Two-Weapon Rend, Uncanny Accuracy. In addition to the feats on this list, the amazon may treat any feat designated as a Fighter Bonus Feat, but not listed here, as being on her bonus feat list.

Maiden's Rage (Ex)(Pride): At the price of raw power and precision, amazon can make a great number of attack. This action fatigue them however.

An amazon may choose to make a certain number of extra attack with her maximum attack rating but take a stackable penalties for each extra attack that carry over to other attack.

  • The first extra attack inflict a penalty of −2 to all attack rolls and a penalty of −2 to all damage rolls. For a total of −2 to attack rolls and −2 to damage rolls to all her other attacks in the round.
  • The second extra attack inflict a penalty of −4 to all attack rolls and a penalty of −2 to all damage rolls. For a total of −6 to attack rolls and −4 to damage rolls to all her other attacks in the round.
  • The third extra attack inflict a penalty of −6 to all attack rolls and a penalty of −2 to all damage rolls. For a total of −12 to attack rolls and −6 to damage rolls to all her other attacks in the round.

The amazon may choose to make as much attack as her amazon level/2, if she misses one of her extra attack she cannot make any others. After she used maiden's rage she become fatigued (DC:10 +5 for each extra attack made) if she failed the DC by 10 or more she become exhausted.

Deity Hand (Su) (Honour): Powerful amazon can call their deity to their side to help them aim as a reward of their commitment.

At level 9th, Once per day, the amazon can call her deity to help her aim. This effect grant a bonus to attack rating equal to the Amazon class level + her Charisma score (if positive). Additionally the effect double the critical threat range.

Divina (Sp) (Honour): The state of communion with divine nature, of the wholeness of feminine body and it bound to nature.

At 10nd level the deity grant the amazon special abilities for her servitude. The nature of the abilities depend on the deity. Divina is the state that amazon sought in the first place.

May cast any 0th level spell from the druid spell list at will, as a spell-like ability. Caster level equal to amazon level.

They also receive a bonus depending on their deity:

Divina based on deity of Ascyria
Deity Special
Orrianne +2 to caster level and may Heal once per day as spell-like ability.
Ghanadel +2 bonus to Charisma, +2 HD to divine mount.
The Sungoddess Add the Sun domain spell to her spell known list and may Turn Undead as a Paladin once per day.
Viana +2 to Charisma, may use Charm Person 3/Day with caster level equal to Amazon level x2 as a spell-like ability.
Cassia +2 to Charisma, may use Vampiric Touch 3/Day with caster level equal to Amazon level x2 as a spell-like ability.

Eternal Youth (Su) (Honour): The Amazon's deity, reward her most faithful servant (the amazon) with eternal beauty and youth.

At level 10th the deity grant the amazon eternal youth, the amazon revert any aged penalties gained and remove the maximum age. additionally the amazon become immune to all age affecting effect and magical and non-magical disease. If the amazon violate her code she automatically revert to her true age (possibly turning to dust) however this effect wear off only if a critical part of her code is violated.

The Amazon’s Divine Mount (Honour)[edit]

The amazon’s mount is superior to a normal mount of its kind and has special powers, as described below.

A amazon’s mount is treated as a magical beast, not an animal, for the purpose of all effects that depend on its type (though it retains an animal’s HD, base attack bonus, saves, skill points, and feats).

Character Level Bonus HD Natural
Armor Adj.
Str Adj. Int Special
12th or lower +2 +1 +1 6 Empathic link, improved evasion, share saving throws, share spells
13t-15th +4 +3 +2 7 Speak with Amazon
16t-18th +6 +5 +3 8 Blood bond
19t-20th +8 +7 +4 9 Spell resistance

Character Level: The character level of the Amazon (her Amazon level plus his original class level).

Bonus HD: Extra eight-sided (d8) Hit Dice, each of which gains a Constitution modifier, as normal. Extra Hit Dice improve the servant’s base attack and base save bonuses, as normal.

Natural Armor Adj.: This is an improvement to the servant’s existing natural armor bonus.

Str Adj.: Add this figure to the servant’s Strength score.

Int: The servant’s Intelligence score. (A fiendish servant is smarter than normal animals of its kind.)

The abilities mentioned in the “Special” column of the accompanying table are described below.

Empathic Link (Su): The amazon has an empathic link with her mount out to a distance of up to 1 mile. The amazon cannot see through the servant’s eyes, but they can communicate empathically. Because of the limited nature of the link, only general emotional content can be communicated.

Because of the empathic link between the mount and the amazon, the amazon has the same connection to a place or an item that the servant does.

Improved Evasion (Ex): If the mount is subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, it takes no damage on a successful saving throw and only half damage on a failed saving throw. Improved evasion is an extraordinary ability.

Share Saving Throws: For each of its saving throws, the mount uses either its own base save bonus or the amazon’s, whichever is higher. The servant applies its own ability modifiers to saves, and it doesn’t share any other bonuses on saves that the amazon might have.

Share Spells: At the amazon’s option, he may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) he casts on himself also affect her mount. The mount must be within 5 feet at the time of casting to receive the benefit. If the spell has a duration other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the mount if it moves farther than 5 feet away and will not affect the servant again even if the mount returns to the amazon before the duration expires. Additionally, the amazon may cast a spell with a target of “You” on his servant (as a touch range spell) instead of on herself. A amazon and her mount can share spells even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the mount’s type (magical beast).

Speak with Amazon (Ex): If the amazon’s character level is 13th or higher, the amazon and mount can communicate verbally as if they were using a common language. Other creatures do not understand the communication without magical help.

Blood Bond (Ex): If the amazon’s character level is 16th or higher, the mount gains a +2 bonus on all attack rolls, checks, and saves if it witnesses the amazon being threatened or harmed.

This bonus lasts as long as the threat is immediate and apparent.

Spell Resistance (Ex): If the amazon’s character level is 19th or higher, the mount gains spell resistance equal to the amazon’s level + 5. To affect the mount with a spell, another spellcaster must get a result on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) that equals or exceeds the mount’s spell resistance.

Code of Pride and Honour[edit]

Critical Points

  • Must remain pure (virgin) (Pride and Honour)
  • Honour your Goddess before all (Pride and Honour)
  • Never Surrender (Pride and Honour)

Lesser Points

  • Never Fear death (do not retreat) (Pride)
  • Live by the way of the Huntress, hunt for food, wash in the river.... (honour)
  • Do not attack an enemy unaware (Animal and Beast do not count) (Honour)
  • Honour fallen comrade (Honour)
  • Honour fallen foes and your victories over them (take trophies, boast) (Pride)
  • avoid dealing with Male (Pride)

Anything dealing with pride or honour is considered part of the code. By example killing an enemy who is helpless is a violation to honour, stripping before a men would be a violation to pride.

Ex-Amazons[edit]

If an amazon violate a part of her code, she lose all class features with the code attribute (Pride, Honour or Both). The Amazon must pray for 24 hours in a rows to regain her good standing. If the amazon was forced or dominated she is automatically forgiven. If an amazon violate a critical point of her code (voluntary or involuntary) she is banned forever from the class and may never atone. However the amazon may perform an amazing deeds to regain her status.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Amazon[edit]

Combat: The amazon d8 make her slightly weaker in melee, she is better in ranged attack and if thing look grim for the fighter or barbarian she can assist the in melee. her spell make her a bit more versatile. Her class features make her favourite in hit and run tactic (high land speed and better range), but this tactic can lead to a code violation.

Advancement: Amazon were almost all ranger or multiclass fighter or barbarian. The amazon is better continuing as an amazon to get more of her class feature. Few level in amazon can be considered dead weight.

Resources: Few amazon exist, some of them unite themselves in tribes but those are very rare. They can alway count on their chosen deity clergy.

Amazon the World[edit]

What a strange woman.
—Jean, Human Commoner

Amazon are rarely seen in civilization, they favour nature and wilderness.

Races: Most amazons are elves or humans, fallen elves make the majority of evil amazon. Sylvan and high elves are another big part of amazon population. Human amazon are "common" in less advanced civilizations. Other more primitive people may may sprout amazon. Orc and half-orc amazon aren't unheard of, half-giant amazon are possible. Amazon of other races are very rare at best.

NPC Reactions: Very few reaction are possible, most people will assume amazon as ranger or barbarian and react accordingly.

Amazon Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (nature) can research Amazon to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (nature)
DC Result
11 Amazon are fierce huntress, who specialize in bow or spears.
16 Amazon can push their bodies harder than most can dream.
21 Amazon are helped by their female deity, giving powers and a powerful mount.
26 Give info on Amazon class features.

Amazons in the Game[edit]

Amazon are usually wanderer or simply nomad, they often seek glory and other weightless thing (they are nomad after all). Most amazon will be encountered in the wild. They are more inclined to react neutrally to the PC.

Adaptation: They can fit in any campaign, but you need to decide which female deity accept to patron amazon.
