A Glassed Surface[edit]

Setting[edit]

The year is 2557 (Or any time before 2589), add more wildlife, colonization, and general alterations if closer to the year 2589. You're party has been tasked (or contracted) by a third-party (or a main faction) to search for a Forerunner artifact left by the Covenant. You must find it before the insurgents (or other faction) finds it, you will surely be fighting them over the course of this journey, and possibly others searching for riches upon the surface of Reach. You and your party search the surface of the planet Reach, digging through thousands of tons of magma, city ruins, and cracked mountains to find it. While searching for the artifact, you must balance time-searching with how many Oxygen-Tanks or Methane-Tanks (Grunt) that are available to you. If you can not find it within the given time without getting back to your ship, you may seek an untimely death upon the surface of Reach. You have exactly 72 hours, as you have only been supplied with three Oxygen/Methane-Tanks each person. (NOT COMPLETE)

Adventure Equipment[edit]

At the beginning of the story, you will start with the following;

  • Three Oxygen/Methane Canisters per person. This item will attach to your armor or just general persons, it is most commonly attached to your back, up to user. A mask/tube is connected to the tank and will stay attached to your face. If the tank is targeted, the creature targeting it has disadvantage, if 10 damage is done to it in one turn, it will explode, and all Oxygen/Methane immediately leaks out. On changing tanks, one must do it within 18 seconds (3 rounds), and it requires a full action. Other creatures can rip your mask off. This tank will last 24 hours.
  • A Pelican, Phantom, or other aerial transport vehicle capable of space flight. This vehicle has a Oxygen and Methane deposit of 288 hours that can be tapped into, this deposit is only activated once the vehicle is activated, you can refill your tanks if you'd like, though remember you must travel a long ways . (If the adventure is completed and you continue after the point of returning the artifact, keeping it, or destroying it, just autocorrect the number to a base of 288 hours of Oxygen and Methane and adding 48 hours of Oxygen and Methane per person on board.)

Possible Locations[edit]

During the course of the story, you will most likely go to these locations;

  • Research Station Gamma Ruins; this location is the ruins of a planetary research station orbiting Reach. Once a place for scientific discovery, now a hotbed for insurgent, scavenger, and pirate activity. This station is now reportedly known as a scavengers ground, with some sources, whether they be reliable or not, saying that some of the armories on-board hold weapons that the UNSC were unable to get off the station. In this station you may find rooms like operating rooms, experimentation rooms, offices, firing ranges, and other military or RND environmental rooms.
  • Svarvas Regeneration and Salvage Field; a junk yard ran by the UNSC for the most pristine of junk. Covenant vehicles, UNSC vehicles, and even broken weapons mixed in with the thousands of tons of now melted trash above and below the earth. There is a building in the middle that works as a vehicle elevator, allowing for anything Pelican sized to either come in from above or to the side. If the adventurers can get these gates open and the elevator functioning, which may attract pirates, they may be able to descend into the facility, where they may find a large collection of untapped UNSC equipment and possible pirates or rabid survivors in the facility, stuck there, unable to escape, they will most likely be running on their last bit of air. On the other hand, the underground portion of this location is attached to a large canyon, the Hell's gap, which extends for 20 miles in the direction of the city of Erőd. This area is gated and surrounded by an open field with small cracks in the earth with magma leaking out, making it difficult to get to on foot. This building may have rooms and environments like garage, armory, and other mechanic or military based rooms.
  • Hell's Gap; this is a 20 mile long canyon caused by a glassing beam, this can only be climbed down into and requires someone to climb down 100 feet. (Not recommended), if someone follows it to its origin they'll realize it starts underneath the Svarvas Regeneration and Salvage Field, where they can access it from there. It is mostly stable rock and crushed concrete at the bottom, with a magma river flowing between. On the other end of the canyon, it'll lead into an underground garage in the City of Erőd.
  • The City of Erőd; this city is nothing but a heap of metal upon the surface of the earth. Some towers still stand from its day as a city. It has been known to be ghost town, the eerie screeching of metal sounding like endless screams, and the charred bodies of its old inhabitants plotting the ground. The adventurers must follow the data logs of Lt. Rancher, an UNSC officer who never made it off the planet, only being able to survive because of a great influence from the artifact. They must follow his story exploring the hellish ruins of Reach immediately after the glassing, fighting Covenant forces with his band of UNSC remnants, and assuring that the artifact is never found. Lt. Rancher's body can be found at the top of the of a parking garage alongside other soldier corpses. Hospitals, clinics, apartments, houses, markets, and other buildings that may belong to a city.
