Abaddon the Despoiler is the leader of the Black Legion and Warmaster of Chaos. The only chaos lord to receive the blessing of all four Ruinous Powers, Abaddon is the only figure with the might and the charisma to unite all chaos space marine warbands and lead them forth on Black Crusades that make the very multiverse tremble. Heir of Horus. Abaddon was once First Captain of the Sons of Horus, a space marine legion sired by the noble primarch Horus Lupercal. When Horus was seduced by evil and revolted against the empire that he once served, Abaddon followed his sire dutifully. But when Horus was struck down and the rebellion quashed, Abaddon grew disillusioned with his father. After decades of self-imposed exile, he returned to the Sons of Horus and had the legion renounce their former identity, painting their armour black. Now in command of this new Black Legion, Abaddon vowed to do what his father never could: bring the god-emperor’s imperium to its knees. Champion of the Dark Gods. Abaddon is the only chaos space marine since Horus to have pleased all four of the Chaos Gods. His sheer strength, cunning, tenacity and ambition have impressed them all greatly, and the Ruinous Powers unanimously conferred their blessings upon him. He bears the Mark of Chaos Undivided, which protects him from all harm and aids him in all tasks. Weapons of Evil. Abaddon wields the Talon of Horus, a lightning claw once borne by Horus himself. It is a weapon of unspeakable evil, said to have mortally wounded the god-emperor’s physical form and to have slain the chief of his angels, and those struck by it will feel an echo of their death screams that can easily paralyze the faint-hearted. He also carries the greatsword Drach’nyen, said to be a powerful daemon that was transformed into an inanimate object as punishment for some past transgression. Though it is large even for a space marine, Abaddon wields it one-handed as easily as if it were a shortsword. |
