Fox-squirrels are small canine creatures that inhabit the forests. Despit the name, they are pure canines, not squirrel-fox hybrids. Though normally appearing docile, fox-squirrels can be very dangerous if they attack in large groups. (Author's Note: The fox-squirrel I have created was inspired by the fox-squirrels from the Hayao Miyazaki films Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind and Laputa: Castle In The Sky. They are not, and I repeat, not the real-world fox-squirrels.)
Combat
Fox-squirrels tend to chase down its prey, exhausting it until the prey can be dragged down. When faced against larger foes, fox-squirrels tend to go for tendons, hamstrings, genitals, & arteries.
Attach (Ex): If a fox-squirrel hits with a bite attack, it uses its powerful jaws to latch onto the opponent’s body and automatically deals bite damage each round it remains attached. An attached fox-squirrel loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class and has an AC of 12. An attached fox-squirrel can be struck with a weapon or grappled itself. To remove an attached fox-squirrel through grappling, the opponent must achieve a pin against the creature.
Skills: Fox-squirrels have a +4 racial bonus on Climb, Hide, & Move Silently checks & a +8 racial bonus on Balance & Jump checks. They use their Dexterity modifier instead of their Strength modifier for Climb and Jump checks. *In areas of heavy foliage, the hide bonus increases to +8. **Fox-squirrels have a +1 bonus on survival checks when tracking by scent.
Fox-Squirrels as Familiars: Fox-Squirrels can be selected as a familiar. If selected, the fox-squirrel grants its master a +3 bonus on Balance checks. A fox-squirrel familiar can also speak one language of its master’s choice as a supernatural ability.
