LA?[edit]

Level Adjustment?
X 06:40, 14 May 2007 (MDT)X

I see LA0 by way of categories, however I am not sure if this is the indented LA by the author. Many people do not change the categories when making a creation and so the LA0 that is present may not be 100% correct. --Green Dragon 10:16, 14 May 2007 (MDT)
LA0 is correct, because I didn't bother with LA as I'm not sure what exactly it is. --Daniel Draco 11:46, 14 May 2007 (MDT)
LA is kind of the way a race "compensates" class levels for being better than a normal race, normal being things like the human, elf, etc. So, if a race has LA +4 and a character wants to be that race they would start level 5 (LA 4 + 1 class level). LA, however, is added to something called the ECL (estimated character level). The ECL states what the starting level of a character would be if they took the race. So, the LA +4 example I said above would be ECL 5 (LA 4 + 1 class level). ECL encompasses racial HD, etc. So, lets take the bugbear as an example. On the "Bugbears as characters section" it has LA +1. This LA will be added into the ECL. Also, if you look above, it has 3 racial HD. These three racial HD will also be added to the ECL. So, altogether, the ECL for the bugbear turns out to be ECL 5 (LA 1 + 3 HD + 1 class level). This means a character would start at level 5 if they were to be the bugbear race. Does this help? Is it still confusing? If you point me to where I need to help explain this more I would be more than happy. --Green Dragon 22:45, 14 May 2007 (MDT)
I get it now, thank you. LA0 --Daniel Draco 06:18, 15 May 2007 (MDT)
With a high BAB and a 8/level skills i'd say it has a LA at least 1. And the darkvision doesn't help me change my mind at all. If you play it a sorcerer you'll have the highest BAB available, the highest number of skills per level and the highest number of spells per day. Please, tell me how do you compare this to a human sorcerer of the same level... X 14:25, 15 May 2007 (MDT)X
Those are both features it specifically says are NOT applicable. --Daniel Draco 14:31, 15 May 2007 (MDT)
The problem is that it's worded to sound otherwise, especially given that the intended rule is no different than how the rules normally work. I changed it to br bit more clear. —Sledged (talk) 14:45, 15 May 2007 (MDT)
X, does it look better now? --Green Dragon 23:05, 15 May 2007 (MDT)
Yes, thank you. BTW I forgot to mention - nice race. :) X 23:59, 15 May 2007 (MDT)X

Favored Class[edit]

Umm, i saw that all their + stats are dex aligned maybe Sorcerer isn't the best favored class (I'm thinking rogue). anyway just my 2cp. 71.219.137.212 17:13, 19 May 2007 (MDT)

While physically speaking they are very dexterous and agile, they are, being ultimately from a plane that is the source of shadow magic, they are very often inborn with magical talent, which, unless I'm mistaken, is the very definition of the sorcerer class. Their fits of laughter and slightly glowing eyes make them bad candidates for hiding and sneak attacking, as they'd tend to be spotted shortly after hiding in the first place. This is not to say they would take penalties, as they can always gain some self-control and squint, but it does make rogue to not be a favored class. --Daniel Draco 17:26, 19 May 2007 (MDT)
Let's not forget that elves have the same adjustments and their favored class is wizard, and gnomes have a −1 Strength and a +2 Constitution and their favored class is bard, (unless you play Eberron, then it's possibly artificer). —Sledged (talk) 00:17, 23 May 2007 (MDT)
