Ethereal Sight. The snappergeist can see 60 feet into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.

Illumination. The snappergeist sheds dim light in a 20 foot radius.

Incorporeal Movement. The snappergeist can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (7d6 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled.

Electroshock. The snappergeist makes one bite attack against a Medium or smaller creature it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target takes the bite's damage plus 15 (3d8 + 2) lightning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Etherealness. The snappergeist enters the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while it is in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa, yet it can't be affected by anything on the other plane. The snappergeist can make attacks against targets on either plane, but otherwise can't affect anything on the other plane.

The ghost of a long-dead predator. This patient predator takes full advantage of its ghostly nature as it lies in wait for prey, its "spring loading" jaws spread wide mere millimeters beneath the ground, behind a wall or just within any object large enough to conceal its bulk. When a creature treads within striking distance, the monster releases its tense jaw muscles and solidifies its teeth to clamp shut on the victim like a crushing vice. With the rest of its body still in its hiding place, the snappergeist becomes a virtually immovable trap, and if prey proves exceptionally bothersome, it can deliver several thousand volts of electricity through its luminous tongue.
A snappergeist's hiding spot may appear slightly damp with residual slime, and a sensitive enough creature may detect subtle, moist puffs of "breath" coming from what otherwise resembles a solid surface. Less intelligent prey, meanwhile, is often lured directly to the monster's maw as its tongue flicks in and out of visibility.
