Evasion. When the mothula is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.

Flyby. The mothula doesn't provoke an opportunity attack when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

Forest Camouflage. The mothula has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in forests, woodlands, or other terrain of abundant foliage.

Fragile Wings. If the mothula takes any fire damage, or is hit by a called shot that inflicts slashing damage, its wings are destroyed and it loses its flight speed. The mothula can quickly regenerate its wings by finishing a short rest.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The mothula makes one slam attack and one bite attack.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage, and a Large or smaller creature must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Morth Shot. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage. Miss: One morth appears in the target's space, or wherever the trajectory of this ranged weapon attack would have been obstructed.

Spawn Morth Swarm (3/Day). The mothula spews a swarm of morths into any open space within 10 feet of it.

Taking the form of a single-eyed moth as large as a horse, a mothula attacks with a giant pair of scissor-like mandibles. Carnivorous by nature, it hunts down any and all prey in the forests and jungles in which it normally dwells. Its black and dark green carapace blends well into its choice of habitat. A mothula's wings are notoriously fragile, but even if they are destroyed and it is forced to walk, it remains a potent and aggressive monster.

Variant: Flightless Mothula

Either because it has yet to grow its initial wings, or its wings have been recently severed, this mothula cannot fly. It can't use its fly speed or its Flyby trait.
