Candlelord

—Quincy Aethelbaum, elven Candlelord

Candlelords are a rare and little-known prestige class of the Church of Modroben, unique in that it has little connection to death and is based entirely around defending the timestream from those who would harm it. Candlelords treat it as a sacred duty to ensure that the passage of time proceeds smoothly.

Becoming a Candlelord

Candlelords are chosen from among the Mageclaine, the wizardly class of Claine. They must be studious and intelligent, and above all, loyal to the Church and its teachings. Because Candlelords fight those who would pervert time for their own ends, they must utilize magic to counter their opponents; thus, Candlelords use spells that majorly alter the passage of time, which would be forbidden for any other spellcaster within the Church.

Class Features

Like all members of the Church of Modroben, Candlelords are expected to be neutral in most affairs (excepting only the defense of death, time and fate). Their class features should not be used except in the manner of church business and in direct self-defense. All of the following are class features of the Candlelord. All of the following are class features of the Candlelord.

Spellcasting: At each level, the Candlelord gains new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if the Candlelord had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class level. Candlelords do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.

Spells: To cast a particular spell, Candlelords must have an Intelligence score of at least 10 + the spell's level. Candlelord bonus spells are based on their Intelligence. Saves to avoid the effects of your spells have a DC of 10 + the spell's level + your Int bonus (if any).

Sacred Wick: Every Candlelord is giving a long piece of string that has been blessed by the Church. Bits of it can be used as a wick for candles, which, when burnt, will facilitate a Divination spell once per day. Each Candlelord must make his own candles in order for them to work.

Path of Wax: A fundamental understanding of of where one is and where one wishes to be can lend some insight on how one can go about getting there. At second level, the Candlelord gains a +2 bonus to his Move Silent, Balance, Tumble, and Jump rolls.

Time Slice: Starting at third level, Candlelords gain the ability to practice time slicing, the ability to exist in a sliver of time. With this ability a Candlelord is able to slice his personal time into a smaller amount, effectively allowing him to move faster and do more than a normal being. A Candlelord can only use this ability if wearing light armour and not under a heavy load, and a number of times a day equal to 3 + the Candlelord's Intelligence modifier

At the third level this ability is equal to twice speed. In combat the Candlelord may declare a time slice and then proceed to take two rounds of actions in a single round. For the next round after the ability however they count as Fatigued. The Candlelord also gains a +4 Dexterity bonus to Attacks, AC, Reflex, and Skillchecks. Successive uses of Time Slice are possible, but a Fatigued Time Slicer becomes Exhausted for one round AND Fatigued for three rounds thereafter. The danger comes to an Exhausted user, who then must make a Fortitude save [DC 15 + # of successive Time Slice uses] or take 2 points of Constitution burn that must be restored naturally.
At sixth level this increases to triple speed, allowing the Candlelord to take three rounds in one go. The Candlelord's Dexterity bonus also increases from +4 to +6. The fatigued effect then lasts for two rounds, and Fatigued use leads to Exhaustion for 2 rounds and Fatigued for five rounds.
At ninth level this again increases to four times speed, allowing four turns in on go. The Candlelord's Dexterity bonus also increases from +6 to +8. The fatigued effect then lasts for three rounds, and Fatigued use leads Exhastion for five rounds and Fatigue for 1 minute.

Witness Past: At fourth level, the Candlelord gains the ability to use a self-made candle with a Holy Wick once per week to see events from the past. He must state an exact timeframe to witness when lighting the candle - it must include either exact times of day for starting and stopping (up to one hour per Candlelord level) or use objective events like "from when the King announced his verdict to when the Queen died"). Anyone illuminated by the candle as it burns will witness the timeframe from the exact spot that the candle currently sits.

Time Blink: At 5th level, the Candlelord can remove himself from the timestream to make a normal move action. This removal from the timestream makes the move almost instant and any interaction with the rest of the world impossible, and thus it can ONLY be used for movement. This ability functions like the Teleportation spell, but the range of movement is limited to what the Candlelord could do in a normal move action. A Candlelord can do this a number of times per day equal to his Intelligence modifier +1.

Know Present: At sixth level, the Candlelord's ability to analyze the present time allows him a great understanding of the imminent future. This predictive ability is very well-honed, allowing him a +4 to hit, AC, Surprise and Reflex saves.

Undo Time: At seventh level, the Candlelord can turn back time one minute (one round) one time per day. Everyone is required to complete the same actions they did the first time, however, they re-roll for any events that occurred in the round that was undone.

Time Stop: At eighth level, the Candlelord may cast Time Stop once per day.

Moment of Prescience: At ninth level, the Candlelord may cast Moment of Prescience three times per day.

Resolve Paradox: At tenth level, the Candlelord may burn one level of experience (even if it would lower him below tenth level) to undo any paradox whose effects he can see or feel. This has equivalent power to a Wish spell, but can only be used to resolve a paradox that has occurred in time.
