Arctic Augurer

What could possibly be more beautiful than spires of ice crystals? More sublime than gently falling snow? More grand than the frozen tundras? Simply put, nothing in this world.
—Natalie, Human Arctic Augurer

Arctic Augurers embrace the serenity and peace, as well as the biting sting and ferocity of winter, and overtime become more attached to the cold.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Arctic Augurer.

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Arctic Augurer, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Icewalking (Su): The Arctic Agurer has the icewaling supernatural ability. Icewalking works like spider climb, but the surfaces the Arctic Agurer clumbs must be icy. Icewalking is always in effect.

Cold Resistance (Ex): At 2nd level, the Arctic Agurer gains cold resistance 5 due to his experiances with the cold. His cold resistance increases by 5 at 4th, 6th and 8th levels.

Aura of Frost (Su): At 3rd level, the Arctic Agurer gains an aura of freezing air for 5 ft. around him. Every creature that enters the aura must make a fortitude save (DC 10 + Arctic Agurer Level + Revelevent ability modifier (Intelligence, Charisma)) or suffer 1d6 cold damage for every two Arctic Agurer levels. At ninth level, this ability improves. The fortitude DC increases by 5, damage is 1d8 rather than 1d6, and any creature that fails it's fortitude save is slowed until they leave the Aura of Frost, and one round after. This aura is always in effect.

Silent Sleet (Ex): At 5th level, the Arctic Agurer's cold spell's verbal componets can be left up to the tundras to speak. With a DC 25 + spell level spellcraft check, the Arctic Agurer may cast a spell as if it were silenced. The spell still occupies the same level as it did before. This ability cannot be combined with Still Crystals.

Fire Ineptitude (Ex): An Arctic Agurer slowly loses his ability to use spells with the [Fire] discriptor. At 5th level, any [Fire] discriptor spell cast by the Arctic Agurer suffers a caster level penalty equal to the Arctic Agurer's Arctic Agurer level.

Still Crystals (Ex): At 7th level, the Arctic Agurer's cold spell's somatic componets can be left up to the movements of blizards. With a DC 25 + spell level spellcraft check, the Arctic Agurer may cast a spell as if it were stilled. The spell still occupies the same level as it did before. This ability cannot be combined with Silent Sleet.

Flame Backlash (Ex): An Arctic Agurer slowly loses his ability to use spells with the [Fire] discriptor. At 7th level, any [Fire] discriptor spell cast by the Arctic Agurer causes him 1d6 damage per level of the spell.

Fire Minimization (Ex): An Arctic Agurer slowly loses his ability to use spells with the [Fire] discriptor. At 9th level, any [Fire] discriptor spell cast by the Arctic Agurer has all it's variable numeric componets minimized. This does not affect the damage caused by Flame Backlash.

Aspect of the Tundras (Ex): An Arctic Agurer who reaches 10th level completes his tolerance of cold, and hatred of fire. He gains cold immunity, and gains a +1 to his caster level when casting cold magic. In addition, while in arctic environments, he gains a +5 bonus to Hide, Move Silently, Listen and Spot. From this point on, the Arctic Agurer is unable to cast [Fire] discriptor spells. In addition, some minor physical change to indicate this completion occurs, such as ice crystals hanging from their hair, ice footprints, snow-white skin that's cold to the touch, etc.

Bonus Feats:

The epic Arctic Agurer gains a bonus feat (selected from the list of epic Arctic Agurer feats) every 3 levels after level 10.

Epic Arctic Agurer Bonus Feat List: Armor Skin, Craft Epic Arms and Armor, Craft Epic Wand, Epic Energy Resistance, Epic Spell Penetration, Epic Spell Focus (Evocation), Great Charisma, Great Intelligence, Improved Combat Casting

Campaign Information

Playing a Arctic Agurer

Combat: An Arctic Agurer often stays far from the front of combat, chilling his opponets to immobility if they get too close, and retreating to afar once more.

Advancement: Arctic Agurers rarely multiclass more than with their base wizard or sorcerer class.

Resources: Arctic Agurers are friendly toward others of their kind, and often help each other when in need.

Arctic Agurers in the World

Not so arrogant as a block of ice, are you?

Arctic Agurers typically live away from civilization in frozen reaches. If one comes to a more populated area, he typically has some important reason. Adventuring is the most common of these reasons.

NPC Reactions: Apart from those in the frozen parts of the world, Arctic Agurers are typically frowned upon. Though not outright rejected, not many would like one who turns their homes to ice.

Arctic Agurer Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (arcana) or Knowledge (nature) can research Arctic Agurers to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (arcana) or Knowledge (nature)
DC Result
11 Arctic Agurers are so focused on studies of cold that they live in remote regions.
16 Arctic Agurers are said to slowly lose their knack for fire magic in exchange for the chill of winter.
21 An Arctic Agurer's prowess of cold is so complete, he need not always cast the entirety of his spells for them to function.
26 Arctic Agurers grow so linked with frost and ice that they eventually lose touch with fire, and nearly become creatures of cold themselves.

Arctic Agurers in the Game

Arctic Agurers as PCs typically can be found adventuring in colder settings, or alternatively warm settings attempting to cool them down. NPC Arctic Agurers often live off by themselves or a community of like-thinking people.

Adaptation: Since the Arctic Agurer lives away from civilization, it could be the PC's have never found one before. Or perhaps they are the first to take this chilling path.
