Creating a new Species in the 2024 revision of 5e is even simpler than in Legacy 5e.

First of all, read through the ten Species included in the 2024 'Player's Handbook.

  • Note that Species do not have ability score adjustments (this is done with the character's background origin instead).
  • Three to five traits. Species do not have to be "balanced" against other species (there's no "formula"), just don't get carried away. If you find yourself wanting to add a whole stack of powerful traits, consider spreading these over a prestige class.
